Unless you plan on going in the military or have to live in a bunker, why else would you want to eat MRE's??? Actually, in their defense, they're a lot better than the C-Rats we had.

That is one thing I noted when there. Unless it was removed, I didn't see any kitchen or cooking facilities.

Man I'd love to have something like that, I'd live in it.

Grow mushrooms? You could grow a lot of them thats for sure. Or even other plants which need shade and moisture. I would think it's always humid in there.

Yeah, the old guy giving me direction on my little place told me "no kitchen". He has long since passed away, but there was some reason he told me they didn't put in kitchens, I just don't recall. Thus, the MRE's. Oh well, I keep my stock fresh with "Jethro" eating them. But, darn, if they get expensive!!

Where does it get water from? And of course, where does it put the by products?

Depending on the location, zoning, and initial capital investment, my first instinct would be to turn it into a night club and call it the "Bomb Shelter". Then I'd I'd hire a blues band from Michigan to kick off the grand opening. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It has its own water and sewer treatment plants. I'm assuming there's a well for the water and the purification area/equipment uses a whole room.

How about turning it into a high security vault for data storage. If you have a way to move things in and out easily (elevator) you could contract with your city, township, & county governments to store their files, data tapes, discs, etc. If there are large corporations nearby, they need secure storage also. If that won't work there is always worm and mushroom farming in one end and living in the other end. Sounds really neat. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's a high-probability solution that we're considering. We have a couple more ideas but I want to see what the braintrust at TBN comes up with for other alternatives.

PS. Why doesn't the spellchecker recognize "TBN" as a valid word? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Here's what the guys across the road have done with theirs:

Info Bunker

Here is what the site looks like:
American Tower

And here is a brochure for an identical site in Nebraska, just to give you an idea of what's underground:

Lyons, NE Site

There is all sorts of history on these sites available on the web...search for "long lines"

I'm curious if the guys across the road have things looking as nice as the pictures on their web site...there's a dead car parked in the parking lot, and, by watching the (only 2) cars that are ever there, I'm guessing they are barely making a living for 2 employees (probably the only two names mentioned on the web site!) The owners are probably each taking a 12 hour shift each day, to provide the 24/7 coverage. The grass hasn't been mowed since AT&T sold it, although someone has taken 1 cutting of grass hay off it each of the last two years.

I believe AT&T is still renting back the aboveground garages, so that might be a little income.

My understanding is AT&T didn't sell these sites cheap, so it would not be a "get rich quick" proposal.

I have seen some activity recently on the antenna tower....maybe they are thinking of offering wireless internet...but there is already another company doing that in the area, using grain elevators as antenna platforms, at pretty reasonable rates.

Maybe there's more money in mushrooms than data storage.
