Instead of storing data how about as a server farm. Lots of space, easily cooled, well protected and secure. I would think there are links already in place to allow internet connections. Having off site systems for companies to use during disasters. Lots of big boys play it that market though.

New idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just saw a tractor advertised in the local newspaper. Mentioned to my wife that I'd like to buy one like that.

To which she replied that I'd be needing a new place to call home if I dragged another one in.

Mike,

Well, he's done what we're considering. Offsite storage of "stuff". Since it is just storage, there's not a lot of employee overhead and it probably could be done with a staff of 4 or 5 (depending on what's stored and how dynamic the clients are with the content).

We're also pondering whether to install a disaster recovery hot or cold site so computing can be done instead of just storage.

What we're looking at was also one of the AT&T microwave relay stations that was eventually sold to American Tower.

The site we're looking at is a bit different. The underground bunker and everything that goes with it is across the street from the above-ground building and tower so we're only looking at about 1/2 space they list but it sounds the site we're looking at is a bit more robust (2 generators, own water, sewer and air treatment...).

The bunker has already been sold to a private individual who is the current seller.

I'm trying to get info on whether the main (above ground) building and tower is for sale as well.

Brian

PS. Do you know either of the owners? I was wondering if I could drop your name if I wanted to call to ask questions.

Would you pay rent?
Does the tractor need to come indoors? It appears the hoist setup can lower something about the size of a pickup. Anything bigger may need to stay outside. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif (and if you sleep with your tractor, bring a blanket as it's getting in the 40's here at night).

It would have to be furnished a bit different. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

MikeIA,

Can you change your profile to accept PM's? I can't reply.

Put in a kitchen and make it a Bed and Breakfast. I saw a B&B that was underwater somewhere. Had to dive down to it.

If the tellecom/computing thing falls through you could try a paint ball facility and/or indoor rock wall climbing.

Something to look into is if there are redundant data feeds nearby. That is something we looked for in a co-location facility. The data lines entered the facilities from two different feeds on opposite sides of the buildings so a back-hoe cut or some other catastrophic event would not interrupt data flow.

Don't know if there are any wineries around you, but if there is you could rent space out to them to store their barrels of wine while it ages they like it cool so i'm told
