I'm in the market for a new truck. I'm starting to narrow it down to a 2015 Chevy 2500HD crew cab Z71 with the gas engine. Everyone's right about sticker shock.

Yep. I looked at a couple that were on the lot. They were SLE crew cab's with the Z71 package and both were gas. Prices were between $49,xxx-50,xxx.

OP, how's the quality on the thing? Fit & finish, electronics? Edmund's consumer reviews were griping on electronic gizmos not working. I owned Chevy's from '99 thru 2011 and didn't have issues, I wonder if the bankruptcy & reorg messed them up?

btw, we saw one in the parking lot of the local home supply store over the weekend. It looked nice, but the cab seems to have shrunk? Interior looked smaller than our 2012 Ram Quad Cab? :confused3:

The quality and fit and finish is the best GM has ever done on a vehicle, much less a truck, that I've ever seen. I guess that's why they're charging out the nose for them. I'll tell it like this, my friends who are diehard Ford and Ram fans/owners couldn't even find anything bad to say about my truck after sitting/riding in it. Trust me, they would have picked it to death if they could, but even they couldn't find anything to hate about it other then it was a Chevy. If it impressed them it will impress anyone. Don't let the pics and reviews on line makeup your mind. I made that mistake and it took me sitting in the truck, seeing it in person and driving it to realize I had been a fool not to do it sooner. I'll never trust another vehicle review again until I see it and drive it in person.

The electronics are outstanding. Now, I'll admit I'm not one for gadgets and stuff, but there's some really neat stuff going on in these trucks. Useful stuff, not stuff you'll get tired of after a few months. I don't have heated seats, lane departure control, active seat, or anything like that. Didn't want it. With that said, this truck has tons of awesome features. The Mylink took my salesman 20 mins to explain and I'm still learning about it to be honest. Even the screen in the middle of the dash takes awhile to figure out. It's all user friendly, I just mean there's so much it can do that it takes awhile to realize it. I have not experienced any lag or anything with Mylink, but maybe I don't use it as much as most people will. The voice recognition is better then my Iphone 5S and you can have a strong southern accent like me, talk fast, and it will understand you completely. The only time it didn't understand me is when I gave an incorrect command. If there is one issue I have with the truck it's that the backup camera is not as clear as I'd like it to be. It uses the 8" Mylink screen, it's plenty big, it's just the graphics should be a bit clearer. My Tacoma had a smaller camera in the rearview mirror but it was a lot clearer. It does have the lines in it and they turn when you turn, so that's nice to have. All GM trucks come standard with backup cameras now so I have a feeling they had to go with the lowest bidder to offer that and the clarity suffered because of this. Another thing is I'm not a fan of touch screen radios. It's not really a fault of the truck as it seems that's the direction the whole auto industry is heading, but if I had the option to choose between a touch screen and a regular radio I would choose the regular radio. I'm one of these people that looks for potential issues down the road, and I can see it's going to be a pain to install an aftermarket radio if I ever need one. Not to mention it'll be expensive most likely. Hopefully it'll last a long time though but you know how electronics are. Oh, forgot to mention, there's an app for your phone where you can start the truck, lock or unlock the doors, see info about your truck (avg mpg during the life of your truck, tire pressure, miles to empty, how much gas you have left in the tank, etc). Pretty cool and it's fun to see people faces when you start your truck with your cell phone.lol

Did you see a double cab or a crew cab? The reason I ask is the double cab supposedly increased in size by only 0.3 inches but the crew cab is 2 inches larger. I don't know if the 2014's are wider but they feel like it. You are no longer looking up to RAM and Ford trucks when you pull up beside them, you're about even with them now. If I had to guess, these trucks are not far off the size of what the HD's from 2002-2007 were. I say that because the brakes on these new trucks are the exact same diameter and thickness of the old HD's before they upgraded them in 2011 I believe.

Suburbans are the national car of Texas.
They sure are, on my third one, first two came from Wisconsin plant, current one is a LT Z71 4x4, Texas build, but I miss the 2500 4x4 it replaced. Looking at the new 2015 model. HS

I bought a 2013 4x4 Silverado Z71 1500 crewcab truck last Memorial Day and am still liking it. Have not had a moments trouble with it.... yet. Does your truck have the 5.3L V8 with the AFM in it?? That engine has had some issues with excessive oil consumption in the past (google it). I don't know for sure that GM has totally fixed it as of 2014. I played it safe and bought a AFM disable module, so mine always runs in V8 mode. In theory I *shouldn't* have to worry about the excessive oil consumption issue.

Here's a pic of it the day I bought it:

Is the cab as quiet as what I am hearing? Have heard several comments that this truck is the quietest vehicle they ever drove.

YES!!!!!!

Deereman,
I went from a 2003 Crewcab 2500 HD with Duramax to a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT 1500 Crew Cab 4WD right after Christmas. I can assure you there is more room in this crew cab than in my 2003 and in the 2012 and 2013 trucks. The 5.3L motor is totally different too, since is direct injected. Towing capacity on 2014 is 9600 pounds. Have not towed with it yet, so no feedback on how it does.

Was off work a couple days at Thanksgiving, and I actually went to look at a low mileage one owner 2013 Chevrolet, as I like to buy used. AFter I drove the 2013, then made the mistake of driving a 2014. I got really unsure about what to do, and I passed on the 2013. About a month later went back and bought the 2014 GMC. Incredibly quiet, even quieter and rides/drives better than the wife's 2008 Yukon Denali. If it ever quits raining here on weekends, I'll take and post some pictures.

Where did you purchase the afm disable module. Just got my 2008 back from the dealer after replacing all pistons due to the excessive oil consumption issue. Sounds like they make the corrections in the 2011. Most people don't change their own oil, i do. Was burning over a qt of oil every 2000 miles. Oh and GM says 1 qt every 2000 miles is considered normal...what a crock.

My last GM burnt a qt every 600 miles and they claimed that was normal. In that engines defense, I sold it with 139,000 miles and other than needing spark plugs every 15K it was trouble free engine. The electric system not so much.
