I bought a 10K 20' PJ bumper pull deckover trailer. I needed an all around trailer for occasionally hauling the Kubota L3800, picking up hay and getting other materials. I didn't need a huge weight rating and I wanted something I could either tow with my F150 or 3500. My ideal trailer would have been a 18' or 20' deckover with a 2'- 3' dovetail, but none in stock (surprised, I would have thought there would be more interest) and didn't feel like waiting for a custom. Since I don't expect to ever be hauling any low ground clearance vehicles, I don't expect the ramp angle to be a big deal anyway.

Boy, is it handy not having rails to deal with! I bought some pipe and stall channel yesterday. Got the pipe home, unloaded with the pallet forks and I never handled a thing.

Yep deckovers are very versatile. My first was a 16' used shopmade, not name brand. Used it for hauling six round bales from the hay field and cedar trees cut off with the cedar tree cutter on the tractor.

Only have pictures of the cedars from 2009:

I am not a deckover guy.
I like the equipment style with fenders.
Well.....I don't really like the fenders but.....
For me it is ALL about the ramp angle, and lower center of gravity.

This was my first gooseneck. Shown in this cropped picture backed into the "loading area", where I could just drive the tractor or TORO right onto the 20' deck:

This shows the receiver hitch I added to hook the deckover on and haul 12 bales per trip:

Before I had a trailer, I had no idea how useful they are. Kind of like having a FEL. You just wonder how you ever got anything done before you had it.

I am amazed at the number of TBN members who do not have a trailer suitable for hauling their tractor/s.

True statement here..

First you need the tractor, then the implements, then the trailer, then a truck capable of hauling the tractor & trailer. Before you know it you’ve dropped $100K on equipment.

Bought a PJ 22 deckover 10 years ago. After using car and fendered utility trailers before it's the best trailer for equipment or hay or materials I've ever used. A little heavy for a 1/2 ton especially with 14 round bales. Very well built.

$100K ????
Really?

My tow vehicle is a nearly pristine (100,000 mi.) 1997 K2500 4x4 Suburban with 7.3L V-8
Bought it on E-Bay $8300, 10 years ago. Wonderful vehicle, 133,000mi. now.

My small tractor (I have a larger Ford TLB also) is a 32HP Ford shuttle shift, 1920 FEL 4x4, bought used, four years ago, with 1056 hours for $9500, now completely refurbished (like new- with no electronic crap) $17,000 total.

My trailer is a 14K Quality Steel & Aluminum, bought new 3 years ago for $4400 incl tax, Lic. is $20/yr.)

$29,700 plus ( $3300) new 5' KK tiller, new 5' KK bush hog, new 6' EA 6 way blade.
Total $33,000

"Before you know it you've dropped $100K on equipment".

That $100K estimate is only off by $67K.

Ok, the point I was trying to make was that most folks would love to have a trailer to haul their equipment, but equipment is expensive and it takes most people a while to first buy their tractors/implements and then buy a truck/trailer to haul it.

Certainly, if you’re willing to buy used there are good deals to be had. However, if you prefer to buy new for the financing and warranty, you could easily spend $100K on tractor (~$30K+), 3/4 ton truck (~$50K), implements (~$10K), trailer (~$5K), etc.

Congrats to the OP on his new PJ trailer. Definitely a high quality trailer.

Yup .....sure could.....
........and pay mega $ to finance everything, until rolling over that debt, to upgrade, and finance the latest and greatest new stuff, with the financing end never attainable.

Keep in mind NOT all folks finance purchases some pay cash.

I've been able to easily deflect requests for tractor help by merit of not having a way to haul it.

I've yet any need to take mine to a shop, and if I do have that need in the future, I can rent a trailer at the local yard.

Even a little trailer not fit hauling a tractor is a nice thing. A little 5x8 is so much better for a pickup bed for a lot of jobs. They’re much easier to load especially for something heavy and lower the chance of damage to the lousy pickup beds. For something claimed to bevbuild for work a pickup bed is awful. I’d rate them on par with a glass hammer. Flatbeds and dump beds are so much better.

An even easier way is to say:.... I'll loan you my tractor, if you will loan me your wife.

Those of you who discovered a lot of friends when you bought a pick up truck may have been prepared for the number of new friends that came with the tractor. Not having a trailer makes it a lot easier to say NO.

Yep... my Grandparents and Parents survived the Depression... they believed in being debt free especially on things that depreciate.

About the only exception was a first purchase money mortgage with 25 to 40% down and then they worked like mad to pay it off in 10-12 years...

The only time I have bought on time is for Real Estate and then not always.

No end of folks wanting Dozer work... simply said I have no way to transport... no truck large enough, no trailer large enough and no CDL

One person did a lot of research and soon found it would cost about $800 to pickup and return and decided that was way too much!
