Bought a PJ Deckover

Mr. gsganzer,
I am considering the same idea. I pick up a lot of items for the farm and the horses on pallets and it is a lot of hassle loading and unloading and trying to maneuver the load near the axles so the load is centered properly on the trailer. My current trailer is 7k gross and it works for my JD 4400 CUT, but I don't feel comfortable putting my bobcat on that trailer and usually rent a trailer for that. The deckover would really make my life a lot easier, especially transporting hay. I see you didn't get a dovetail, so does your have ramps and how is that working out loading and unloading your tractor? Also, have you done any hauling of the tractor or any loads and notice any difference in handling due to the higher center of gravity. Thanks, Eldon

I have both styles of trailers, but my PJ with fenders gets used most,

I have 6' slide out ramps. Loading the tractor hasn't been an issue, but you do pucker a bit with the height. My tractor is only a Kubota L3800, it's not that big or heavy so I haven't had any concerns with loads and center of gravity, but I've been pulling the trailer with a 3500 dually too. Another option for you is an equipment trailer with drive over fenders. The fenders are pretty stout and would take some abuse if the forks rested on them as you positioned a load. PJ has a nice one that I seriously considered. Ultimately I wanted an open deck that I could put sides on if I wanted to haul some stone or mulch, so I opted for the deckover.

One thing to keep in mind if you're hauling your tractor around doing things for people. Check your insurance to be sure you're covered off your property. Unless you have a separate business type coverage you could be assuming a lot of liability. It could also give you an out on the "it'll only take a few minutes" crowd.

I guess I am in the half the cost crowd because I have about $50,000. in truck, tractor, trailer, and implements for my Kubota M7040. A trailer is something that sits in the yard until you need it. Costing depreciation, tags, insurance and a wooden deck that will eventually rot. Each person needs to evaluate how much they need one and to weigh the costs of it. I weighed the costs when I bought my F350 and bought the trailer with it. Then I weighed the cost again when I found the deal on the Kubota and again bought the trailer. Now that I am hauling the Kubota around with the Bushhog, I am finding out that I need a bigger trailer! Weighing the cost of upgrading to a 30 foot trailer or larger is not finding it quite as likely to happen. So I make do with my 20 plus five as it does work, just is two feet too short.
