How about those cheapy ATV 2000# electric winches?

Thought about the electric winch. That might be a better choice if I can get the lock down mechanism to work remotely. Then I could raise and lower the scarifiers from the seat. However, I really won't be using it enough to really need to do that.

I like the simplicity of a hand crank winch too. No wires to connect or motors to fail. Hand crank winch is only $20. I figure 3 or 4 turns at most to lift the bar.

At any rate, it sure would be nice to get the remote lock to work again. The chain solution is certainly inelegant.

You could make a simple pin-type mechanism to keep it locked in please with different holes for adjustment. If they scarifiers aren't that heavy you could just pick it up and pin it out of the way, then lower it to where you want and pin it down.

It's way too heavy to pick up. I'd say close to 200 lbs. I can do it. But I wouldn't want to do it more than once or twice. Besides, if you drop that heavy of a load, it could swing down and really hurt you. So, a mechanical assist lift is a must. I guess I could then pin it so that it was safe after raising with the winch.

I do like the pin it down idea. I'd have to weld some pin mounts on each end of the bar and drill holes in the sides to hold them to. Would probably have to beef up those holes too. Not sure how much it would flex in the middle. But, it's pretty darn beefy. I'll have to give this some more thought.

The inelegant chain, though, is starting to sound better and better.

You have a massive project but in the end you are sure going to have a fine piece of equipment. I did notice the six pack was down to a single.

The rear cutting edge is straight, not curved. If the mounting part is curved, it's from use, not design.

Nice, but I have a question. There is only one beer left in the six pack next to the boxblade yet I see no evidence of rust removal yet. Did it take 5 beers just to contemplate the task?

Judging from the rust, I'm guessing it took that many to remove the parts which are so well displayed.

Looks like a real fun project, with a very sturdy and useful attachment when completed.

Thanks John_bud. I've been talking to a Woods dealer trying to find the rear blade and noticed that all the ones he has in his catalogs have a straight rear blade. There is also a backing support bar. I presume I'll need that too? There is a "kink" in the hinge plate where it looks like such a bar would sit.
