Grading Box Blade Question. Could I? Would I?

   / Box Blade Question. Could I? Would I? #21
My KK 60" box blace cost $299 two summers ago. I think they are about 10 percent higher now. First Choice and Midwest are not much, if any, more.

If I remember right, the Woods box blade I ordered, but they could not deliver in time, was more than double the KK price. Maybe 2.5 times as much...

Maybe someone has exact prices on the Woods...or some other top-shelf BB they can report.

Two things I always try to remember are:

You get what you pay for...and...The first 20 persent of what you could spend for the best can buy you 80% of what the best will do for you...if you buy less than the best.

True, but the question is...How long will "less than the best" last. Cheap stuff may do 80% of the work for 20% of the cost, but it will be in the back of the pickup headed for the dump in 33% of the time /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That is a hard call, Jim...

In some cases the answer might be just as long...which I would guess is the case with my cheap KK box blade on the back of my relatively small Kubota B2910...

The same might be said for high end sound systems...cars...trucks...whatever.

But the real answer is probably it all depends...and that is no answer at all, really.... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Jeff,

The bottom of a box blade is open...no? How do you use it to carry things?

I don't own a BB, but my landscape rake gets used a lot. I couldn't go without one.

The other day I use it to drag massive piles of brush. I was amazed. The butts were layed parallel and I backed onto the pile and dropped the rake. The entire pile of brush was dragged to my burning area in one pull.

Sounds like I need to get a BB too!

Would I be safe in guessing I wouldn't have much luck with a BB, due to 2wd?

You can use a bb in 2wd, but you'll be pretty limited in the 'bite' you can take. Moving Pea gravel around my place with mine it's pretty easy to get "stopped" in 2wd, and I imagine that Pea gravel is one of the easier materials to move.

Just my .02

Dave
