Hey Folks,

Ordered a 5ft box blade for my B26 last week, hopefully receiving it today!

Does anybody have some tips for getting this thing set up correctly?

Apparently the length of the top connector is very important to get effective results, any advice is always welcome....... I am going to try and clear up this area with it:

I've got a 5 foot BB and have used it for years - both on a driveway and on raw ground. It works well and, really, is pretty obvious in its use so you shouldn't have much problem. You will want to keep it level with the tractor wheels - unless you want to make a ditch. I've used my to make really nice ditches. The top link rocks the blade back and forth. If you shorten the link the BB will ride up on its sides and be useful for smoothing gravel or finishing dirt. If you rock it back, it will dig in more and fill up pretty quickly. If you put the teeth down, it is handy for that plot your picture shows - unless you have a lot of roots or rocks. You can - again - adjust the angle of the teeth to do what you want them to do - dig deeper or stay shallow - and you can adjust their depth by sliding them up or down and pinning them where you want. My suggestion would be to leave the BB fairly flat at first and put the teeth down a few inches. Work the ground a bit then - depending what you ultimately want to do with it - try different settings and see what happens. Experience is the best teacher. I played with mine for a month or two and now find it an awfully useful tool for all sorts of things.

I must be missing something. What are you doing with it?

It is not a clearing tool, it is a grading tool.

I'm planning to clear up the area, break up the top soil (it gets baked hard as down here in Australia), then try and flatten it out for some grass perhaps.

Its probably not the best photo as you cant see all the uneven areas down the back :)

what are you going to do with the trees

Planning to leave some of the healthier ones then cut the others down and dig out the stumps, hopefully can just bulldoze a few over.

Long term plan is to leave the taller trees and turn the area into a sort of shade garden with a watering system!

There are quite a few threads on using a BB. The people who have a hydraulic top link rave about the ease of use with that added. "Luckily" for me, my dealer would not install the rear valve I needed so instead of spending $1000 for the hydraulics and $650 for a BB I have made so with a blade and York rake for my grading duties. But I am not having to move large amounts of material.

BTW, I also have many small trees to clear. I will be purchasing the item below and adding a diverter valve to my curl function to ease moving brush and also to handle logs for firewood. Something you may also wish to consider if you are doing a lot of clearing.

Good luck with your project and welcome to TBN!

I'll share a couple of vids by some valued EA customers to show you what to expect when hooking up a box blade for the first time and using it. This one shows the process of hooking up a box blade.
