RadarTech,

Not too late for comments and I like your approach to getting a welder. I've gone at it from the opposite end, saying, "If I had a welder, I could reinforce things, so I wouldn't break them in the first place." The response I get is, "You'll burn the house down." She's softened some to the idea lately though.

I think you went into your project having considered all the potentials involved and weren't surprised by what you found. I think your comment, "Just gotta be careful," is a good approach. Dyer, retired

Dyer-- Thanks for the compliment..

Also I attached another shot of a nice big rock..
This is one I "found" by pushing back, when the blade rode up, for 5 feet I knew something was wrong!

I turned around, attacked it from the side and after a few minutes pulled this one out..
Of course it sat there for a week before I went back to move it and take these pictures..

It is amazing how much you can move with this little tractor!!!

Later,
Jim

Retracting my previous content. For some reason I thought it was a BX24. Probably 'cause I was so busy looking at the rock, not the tractor. Or maybe 'cause you said "little tractor". Or maybe 'cause my new toy is a BX24 and I'm having so much fun moving rocks and doing other projects with it.

It is amazing but what you can and what you should do with that little tractor aren't the same thing. Hard to tell from the photo but guessing at size and type of rock that thing is likely well beyond the rated lift capacity of the FEL. Picture looks great nonetheless but be careful not to hurt that little tractor or yourself!

I'm getting embarrassed with all this talk about "little tractors," ha! My BX1800 is probably equal to what the lift capacity on RadarTech's L3400 is? I would describe my tractor as a "little tractor," but it does an awful lot of work for me.

RadarTech, I don't have a FEL (some day I'll have the works,) but if the lift capacity on your bucket is 1000 lbs. (not sure if that's close, but using as an example) and you try to lift 1500 lbs., presuming that you've got enough counter weight on the back of the tractor....what would happen. Would the hydraulics just not be capable of lifting that weight? I imagine there is a tolerance given with these capacity ratings, but thought that if the rock was in the bucket and off the ground, your system must be capable of lifting it? That picture sure does look like a lot of rock.....are you able to make use of the rocks you remove as part of any landscaping? Dyer, retired

Right John,
If the weight attempted to be lifted exceeds the fel capacity, the system bypasses through a pressure relief valve and does not lift it. Loaders are generally matched up to the tractor's capacity, so if the loader lifts it, the tractor should handle it.
Nevertheless, always be careful with a big load like that.

Rob,

That makes sense....thanks. It is amazing the amount of work the loaders and backhoes will do, even on the smaller tractors. I think you appreciate the loader more when you've been working with a pitchfork on a brush/dirt pile for two weeks with very little noticable progress.....then the neighbor comes over with the new MF 2310 and within 3 minutes has the pile moved, leveled, and looking like it was never there.
