box scraper won't dig

I've put in many hours of pure ripping with my BB rocked way forward ... to the point that the blade is as far off the ground as possible. It is necessary to chisel my bone dry, rock hard clay in the arid summers. 400# of weight on top of the rippers, at that angle, seems to be the right tool. I don't want to drag the rippings, just rip in place, because I have to pulverize the huge clods prior to scraping. Note, I bought the longest rippers available and the shortest top link. Works very well.

This is certainly a very interesting predicament.
I looked at the Massey web page from link here at TBN.
I don't understand what they mean in the specs for the 3 pt.
"Type of stabilizers " = "Telescopic bar"
"Type of link ends: SS" = "Fixed/Telescopic"

Mine are turnbuckle for the stabilers and fix link ends.

Can you adjust the lower link ends on your 1540?
Have you tried that?

Can you extend the draft link arms? On the MF site it says "Extendable draft link ends are standard on all 2006 production model 1533, 1540, 1547, 1552 & 1560 models. Fixed draft link ends are used on the 1523, 1528 & 1531 models." If you extend them more it will effectively shorten the top link. Or what about Pat's EZ change or quick hitch option--both effectively lengthen the link arms?

the drift link ends extend, but only to allow easier attachment of the implement. they are spring loaded. once you back up, they retract and lock in place.

Then along comes the Hinged box Blade. The scarifiers clean themselves easier and the ripping effect is multiplied due to the cleaning of the rippers as the hinge opens and keeps them self cleaning. So I hope. I am waiting for my ordered one to come in. A box scraper takes a lot of practice. On my tractor I sold it took me many hours to used to how to set it up for what conditions. Once I got the hang of it, what a handy implement it was. Now I have a new tractor and am going to go with the hinged and it will probably be a whole new learning experience.

Could very well be a problem with either or both? Either shipped with wrong drag links or too short a top link. In any case, a shorter top link will take care of the problem.
