JD 2305
Just bought this machine last week. Never owned a JD before or any tractor for that matter. I got mine with the loader and box blade. No mower deck though, I have three TORO commercial mowers already for my business. The 2305 is mainly for mulch jobs and debris removal and hopefully snow plowing residential driveways. It's a blast to operate! Just thought I would share the happiness /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Easy,

Welcome to the fold. What is the weight of your boxblade? The reason I ask, is that it may not be enough ballast for what that loader is capable of.

Your Right the box blade doesn’t weigh enough. I’ve had my JD box blade on the back of my 2210 when using the FEL loader, and with a good half bucket load it will pick the rear tires off the ground. You should have a ballast bucket with loaded tires. I’ve filled my ballast with 6- 50 lb bags of sand around ¾ high in the ballast ,and then set 10 - JD 42LB suitcase weights on top of the sand . If I need to lighten up on the ballast, I take out some of the weights out. I figure with all it’s a good 750 lbs. or more. Nothing is scarier then having a load in you FEL and not having enough ballast and one or two wheels coming off the ground or rolling the tractor over. I know you wanted some pictures of the cover I made for the ballast. I'm working on taking some pictures for you and some one else who wanted to see the installation of my deluxe limited edition x-series seat that I installed on my 2210.

Congrats on the 2305, you'll love the tractor. Welcome to TBN and enjoy the posts.

How much ballast should you have on the 2305? I assume it is variable depending on the bucket size and what you spend your time lifting. Is this correct? I have the 49 inch bucket so that I can fit it in the horse stall door.

flwiii,

It does depend somewhat on your usage. In my case I have the rear tires loaded and find for light duty this works well. I caution about how easily this can change. When I got my toothbar, I drove down a slight slope to show it to my neighbor, and, was surprised to find that ~ 70 lbs out on the tip was enough to cause the tractor to slide down the hill. Whenever I do anything heavy with the tractor, I put the weight box on that I have filled with concrete. One thing to remember, the 2210/210 lifting capacity has been measured by a poster here, and he got 1170 lbs up to 16" (I assume the 2305/200CX numbers will be similar), so you get the idea what kind of counterballancing can be required.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the warm welcome folks! I tried to post a picture but it told me it was too big? As far as the weight of the box blade I'm not sure but I think around 400 pounds. The only thing I have moved with the bucket was mulch but, tomorrow I am spreading gravel and I most certainly will find out if I don't have enough weight back there. Any suggestions about posting my picture? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
