That's what I was gonna say too :D I was target shooting two weekends ago. A buddy had a 9mm; I thought I was trying a .22lr! I'll keep the .45acp.

Not to get off topic though...

Brent, contgrats on the promotion. Tell everyone you're working with "Thanks!" and we're thinking about y'all!

Watch it Colonel or you will stir up a hornets nest. LOL, That is a touchy subject over here. We are actually attached to a Marine group over here and our combat patch will be a Marine patch. You don't see that often do you? We are waiting on the Army's sign off before we velcro on. Between people whining about combat patches and wanting 9mm's, it can get pretty funny at times.

Yes, fighting a war and the presence or absence of a combat patch can cause a ruckus. Did the Army ever expect an Army unit getting a combat patch from a Marine unit!

When they finally decide, let us know. And wear that patch with pride! You earned it.

I was in Balad, so I kept my 9MM in a pastic bag in my holster. Kept it real clean. When I went out on a convoy, it came out of the bag. Around the base, I wanted a 9, on the convoy I wanted a 16. My medics always gave me their weapon (M-16A1) since they did not travel with me outside the wire.

Hello everyone. It has been a while since I gave a deployment update. I guess the newness and excitement of this place wore off. Any way the good news is that we are less than 3 weeks from leaving here. To answer the last few messages of this thread. I got a 9mm pistol for the majority of the time I was here. It is a lot easier to wear your weapon that to sling one over your shoulder. We got our combat patches. We quailified for the Multinational Forces Iraq, Multinational Corps Iraq, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), 2nd MEF, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), and 3rd MAW. For those unfamiliar with the combat patch, U.S. Army soldiers wear the patch of the higher headquarters that they served under in a combat zone on the right shoulder sleeve of their uniform. Most of the time you would only qualify for one patch per deploymemt. Because the Marines serve a shorter time, we fell under different units and ended up with 6. I am glad they go on with velcro. I can change them often. I am attaching a few pictures. One is of me on a tractor of course. It wouldn't be a complete deployment without some seat time. Then there is one of a huge lizard we would see from time to time. He is about 18 inches long. Look hard at one of the pictures and you will see a huge dust devil. To get an idea of the size, the aircraft in the picture is a C130 cargo plane and it is in between me and the dust devil. The final picture is of me and a guy that I met in a Army school last year and I ran into him when I was in Baghdad. He took me and some friends to a civilian medical clinic that they help out with.

We will out process through Camp Shelby Mississippi. I am hearing that we will probably be there around 5 days and then we will take a bus to Mobile and have a real quick, (better be real quick) ceremony and then we will be released.

I like the ACUs, they are comfortable, but I don't like having to velcro everything on every time I put a clean one on. I saw a LTC the other day and noticed that he had his name and U.S. Army tape sewn on. It looked like he had left the loop part of the velcro on the uniform itself and stitched in on over it.

Love Shelby! So freaking hot! Glad you are back. Will your tax free allow you take 90 days off?

Rumor has it (like all Army rumors) they may stop the velcro. I hate the stuff. I do know you can't stich the velcro, but such is life.

I'm not back quite yet, 13 and a wake up until our tenative departure date. It is like lasting through an annual training period now. I will be taking off three weeks beore I go back to work, but I am not going back to my old job. By law I am allowed 90 days to report back. I am actually going to try out a new job when I get back and after my 90 day trial period I will most likely be going back to the old job to turn in my notice.

I am attaching a few pictures... and then last is me standing beside one of the many junked MIGs that are out here.

Mig 21 Fishbed. Looks like it didn't make it off the deck. Nice pic, it's not everyday you get to stand next to one of those, even though the Russkies exported it to a barn load of countries!

I'm proud of you guys...See ya 'round TBN.
