Brighter Headlights BX2200

Considering that my BX22 was manufactured in September 2003, I wonder where the change of bulbs went into effect. I have a feeling that it is the older machines that used the lesser wattage bulbs and the bulb that I have in my machine was Kubota's answer to the problem. The only way that we will find out is if people post either the manufacture date or delivery date of their tractor along with the model number and the type of bulb that is installed.

Well I spent an hour or so in the dark with the new bulbs installed and they definitely seem to add some more light. Since it is getting dark out so much sooner now I have been working on getting some other lights on the tractor - the headlight now throw pretty good light with those Blazer bulbs but the headlights don't do you too much good unless you either have the FEL bucket right down on the ground or 4 feet or so in the air. What I really want to do is add some lights on the front of the tractor down low so they will shine under the bucket and then some up higher that will shine over - that should give me pretty good light to do nightime FEL work.

You might have to get the heavier duty alternator kit, I think the stock is only 15 amp...I could be wrong on the amps...

Mounting on the ROPS will help you as well..

Good call on the Blazers - big bang for the buck (well, two bucks)
Thanks!
Still looking for those "eyeball" lights they have on the front of cigarette style boats for my fenders to shine down on the leading edge of the mower deck.
And I still have not ruled out a neon kit for underneath...
No subwoofer plans just yet....

BOB:

What is your source for the waterproof light switches? I've had no luck at the parts stores in my area. (CT.)

try West Marine or Hamilton Marine for source of waterproof switches

I ordered a heavy duty alternator for my BX2230 and it was wired wrong from the factory, I took it back and they reordered a new one for me. That has been 3 months ago, they are telling me that they are still on beck order, has anyone been able to get the upgraded alternator lately??

I ordered a heavy duty alternater yesterday from the local dealer (for a BX2200). 325.00 Canadian. Seemed steep compared to the numbers I've been reading here.

I actually got the dealer to put in the higher amp alternator when I bought the tractor because I pretty much knew that sooner or later I would be adding lights. What I am looking for now is some sort of small foglight type light that I can mount on the lower front of the tractor so I can throw light under the FEL bucket when I am driving with the bucket up. I was thinking of using a pair of the Hella worklights I just mounted on the rear of the tractor but they are 4.5 x 4.5 inches and are too big to fit in there and not have to worry about getting them whacked off the tractor from hitting something.

The waterproof switches I used are from Go2Marine

Go2Marine website

You can see pictures of the switches in my photo gallery on TBN. There is also a special trim piece you can order to surround the switch/switches that allows you to get a "factory installed" look and it only costs a buck or two. The trim pieces are modular so you can string them together to mount 1, 2, 3, 4 . . . switches together. The photo in my gallery shows 3 mounted together. When I originally mounted my ROPS lights last year I used 2 switches to power them. This year I added a 3rd switch because I installed a 12-volt power outlet and the 3rd switch just popped into place with the addition of another trim piece. There is also an updated ROPS light picture in the gallery because I went from 35 watt front facing lights to 55 watt lights. The new lights shine right over the FEL and do a much better job of lighting the ground for mowing.
