I just bought a new sprayer for my tractor. Last night I thought I'd give it a try and see how it works. Not 5 minutes after taking this picture, I raised the sprayer up and broke my back glass into a billion pieces.:( I'm not quite sure if the center link hit the glass or something on the attachment. Nothing was damaged on the sprayer, but there was a small chip in the paint on the center link. If it was that, I feel that NH needs to redesign a little.
I went to the dealer this morning. The cost hasn't made it to the price book yet. I do have insurance, so it'll cost me $200.00.
Be warned, you with TC40 & 45's, it's **** to get all those pieces of glass out of the cab!
Go ahead and let me have it. I probably should have know better.

Now that the glass is out of the way.. raise it again and see what hit it.

If it was the 3pt a-frame.. i think the toplink may be adjusted too short.. looks like a bit of an angle on that sprayer inthe pic, as if it is already leaning back a good ways.. when lifted.. I'll be it is at a pretty decent angle.. etc...

Uh, what's the point of buying a tractor with a cab, and then opening the window? Was it open when it broke? I am asking as an uninformed open station owner.

Ugh!!! What a bummer. Chalk it up as part of the learning curve of having a cab. Would be curious to find out what did cause the glass breakage and the $ to replace is. Thanks for sharing as I could see that happening to myself this summer. Keep us posted please.

Jeff,
I had the window open to be able to switch the sprayer on and off. I am now going to invest in a electric switch, so that I can control it inside. The window was open when it broke.
Mad Dog,
I will post when I get details. With the window gone, I can't really tell what hit. Dealer said we would give it a careful look when we get new glass back in.
It could have been the center link. My brother has a TC29 and he broke that tool box (behind the seat) when he raised up all the way. It was the link that crushed it.
How know's. I'll find out soon enough I guess.

Wow Houndstooth, you got me thinking. I have a "new" 3 pt hitch 110 gal sprayer and I never thought about the sprayer breaking the rear window. With snow on the ground it's a bit early to think about hooking up the sprayer but when I do I will remember your experience. Most likely your window will be shut when you get into spraying out in your fields.
Forgot to mention that I have electrical controls that will turn the sprayer on and off, has a pressure guage and switches for the booms, the unit will be mounted inside my tractor, so I can keep the rear window shut.

Oleozz,
Yeah I have learned my lesson. The glass will be shut from now on. I have checked into getting the same set-up you're talking about. It'll be easier anyway. I kinda have to stretch to reach the valve now.

I have to congratulate you on not jumping on the opportunity to sue NH for a design flaw, but having the cojones to admit that having the window open when using the sprayer is something that falls into the category of things the operator needs to watch carefully. Lots of people in today's world would be shouting for their lawyer and trying to figure out how to get the most money out of NH.

Well...um..thanks? haha I know it's my fault. The thought of sueing NH never entered my mind. But it does seem to me they could design the 3 point to not make contact with anything above it, ya know? Like I said before, it has hit a tool box and now a window. What's next? The back of my head? hahaha Just kiddin'! I love this tractor and all NH"s I've ever been on. Wouldn't have any other!

Houndstooth--I'm not sure if you get Successful Farming magazine but the last issue had several good articles about calibrating your sprayer nozzles and how much money you can save by using the correct ground speed and being sure that the nozzles are operating efficiently. Since your unit is new the nozzles wouldn't be a big deal but my sprayer was three years old when I bought it so will be doing some checking before any spraying.
