Really what we actually have here is a wife problem not a tractor problem. I don't think anyone here is qualified in offering sound advice on this one

My advice is look at the DK40. There is not alot of difference in the 40 and 50. The DK40 may get you into the trade window your looking for. If your wife doesn't like it put your foot down and tell her where the bear s**ts. And then sleep in the cab of your new tractor for the next year until everything blows over. You'll be fine!

Nope, not at all, she's one fantastic lady and I'd love her more than life itself, even if she had put her foot down on this one, BUT she didn't. She's not in favour of it, but she was cool about it and says it'll be my next years birthday present (my birthday was yesterday, so she won't have to shop for me for a while!)

I called my dealer back and asked him to meet me half way, I had offered $1500 and he had said $2500. To make it easier, I also said he didn't have to worry about the 50 hr service that they throw in (labour only, but it's a 100km drive each way) when you buy a tractor from them, that should save them most of the difference. Meeting in the middle is important because my wife put the condition that not only can I not borrow any money for it, I have to use "found" money. I just sold a masonry saw for $1500 (that's where my original offer came from), so now I'm off to search the couch for $500

My dealer said he's on the verge of saying yes, but didn't have his notebook with him and wanted to get head around all the numbers first. He asked me to call him back at 9:00am tomorrow.

I've been following this post off and on. Reads like a good book, ups and downs and some comical relief. The way I see it is your wife needs to feel financially secure like most do. Pulling $2500 out of the nest egg makes her nervous because of your pending change in work status. Anything you can sell to bridge the gap? :D The warranty thing is your only recourse otherwise but would you fix the issues yourself if no warranty?

I started out with a Satoh 630D, 100% gear and 27hp. Wife hated it, but realized if we were going to carve a yard out of the woods we needed it. I had to really abuse that tractor to accomplish what we did. I became a fairly good welder repairing everything I broke on it. Very lucky that only the steel parts broke. I broke the centers out of wheel rims. Proud of what we accomplished, but we have landscape "features" that I simplly could not move.
Last spring I wanted more sunlight in the yard and I got a used DK45SE HST. Wife was not behind me on this. The first day I moved just about every rock that has been in my way for years. I had spent weeks trying to do the same thing with the 630D. We now have sun all day long and can finally grow some veggies. Notice that I said "we". I seem to be the one hooking up logs and stumps while she hauls them off.
The DK is at least 3 time the tractor that the 630D is. I have not broken anything because I don't have to work it as hard. If I was going to buy a new one I would go for the 40. My 45 is a beast and I can't see where a couple of hp would make a difference.

Oh yeah, couple of days ago my wife asked if getting a 3pt stump grinder would be a faster way of getting rid of stumps. She is really into this now.

A wise and very wealthy old man had a saying that he was very fond of advising to anyone looking at the proverbial gift horse situation and that was to "Proceed until Apprehended".

I guess it's up to you to decide who it could be that could do the apprehending!!! HaHa!!

Awesome, I'll call my dealer and tell him I'm not interested in a DK45 anymore, get a new RX6010 ready for me, with all the money set to start pouring in!

I have to say it came as a huge shock to get so much support for upgrading to a new tractor from the guys on TBN
