Broken pto housing

/ Broken pto housing #22
Well I got lucky as the damage was contained to the cover itself. The dealer wants to replace two bearings fluid and filter just in case there's any metal floating around so about 400.00 the bad news is I've gone almost two weeks and could have fixed it myself in three days. I'm thankful though and I'll never forget to release the drive shaft from the tractor again. Thanks all.
Turned out about as good as you could have hoped for, good luck.

Glad you got it sorted out.. no point in beating yourself up about it, we all make mistakes. I thought I'd never leave the ROPS up when trying to park the tractor in the garage too, three attempts later (not on the same day at least) I still can't make it fit!

Hopefully once will be enough to remind me forever. Luckily the rops on the bx fits the garage nicely, if I had gotten anything bigger I'm sure I'd have done that too.

I wouldn't even quibble about those bearings. Do it, pay the bill, and drive off into the sunset knowing it's all good as new.

Did Kubota insurance cover it?

Yes the insurance covered it. I just got it back and the bucket won't raise or curl at idle. Only when throttled up. Anyone have any idea why? They put new fluid and a filter in, they also had the engine out to replace a drive shaft boot that had torn.

May have air in the system. Run all the controls to full lift and back. Hope this works.

Thanks

That IS odd.. it sounds like there's a small internal leak in the hydraulic system. With hydraulics, there is no pressure in the system (very minimal pressure anyway) until there is a resistance to the flow created by the pump. The pump may not create enough flow at idle to overcome the leak. When you rev it up, the leak isn't big enough to allow all the fluid to bypass before building pressure to raise and curl the loader. It's like the relief valve is stuck partly open.. or something similar. Will the 3-point hitch do the same thing? You might have to put an implement on it to get enough load to check.

I have had that happen where the loaded woud not work. Just did what is already suggested and ran it through the full range of movement a couple of times. Worked fine after that.

It is possible, I agree. If there's air in the system it has to come out for everything to work properly. Cycle the loader to it's full height and hold it there for about 15 seconds with the joystick in the raise position and pressure going over the relief valve. Same with the bucket curl and dump (both directions). That SHOULD get the air out if there is any. It might take a few tries if there's a lot of it. Don't hold it there too long, the oil will heat fairly quickly going over the relief constantly.

You must remember the BX series only has a single hydraulic pump section with a priority valve that takes flow for the power steering circuit first and then any excess goes to the FEL and 3 point. Most larger tractors have a 2 section pump with one for the power steering and one for other functions while some TLBs have 3 or more.
