Brush cutter

People around here have the DRs and hate them. One problem is the engine's oil system does not handle slopes well. One guy put in two new engines before he gave up. They're also poorly built.

I have a sightly smaller Stihl FS240. With a sharp blade it cuts small stems pretty well. But here the brush is thick enough that I need to pull what I cut out of the way so I can cut more. And that's where the brush cutter has a problem. Leave it connected to the harness and it's in the way. So you have to pull it off the harness, set it aside where you won't step on it, move your brush, then pick it back up and get it on the harness again. I don't like to leave two stroke engines idling for long periods of time so I'd stop it if there's much brush to pile. Which means more time. While I get a lot of work out of the 240 as a heavy duty string trimmer, for my brush I'd rather use a chain saw. I have a small Echo which is light and very easy to start. I'd consider a battery saw if I was going to get another brush saw.

However you cut the stems, apply herbicide on the freshly cut ends. I've had good results with Triclopyr in diesel.

I bought a fs460 and it's tough to beat. 2 acres? I'd make a tractor fit in there.
