Brush Grapple

   / Brush Grapple #21
I have one I built a couple years ago I would post pics but can't figure out how to

So,,,, I click on "go advanced" below.
Then I click on the blue "A" in the top row of icons, far left
Then I place my cursor where I want the pic to appear
Then I click on the square picture with four black dots at the corners, second row of icons, fourth from right end
Then I follow the directions in the newly opened window.
Once the pic is displayed in thumbnail size I decide what size I want it to appear
If I want it bigger I double click on the pic and select a size from the newly opened window
Bingo pic appears in whatever size I chose

I'm trying this. Just finished it. As OVRSZD said, I might use it for bigger things than it was built for. I'm hoping it works for me though.

Your cylinders will destroy the angle iron that the top ends of them are fastened to.

I like your concept. But it has to be overwhelmingly strong at the cylinder point and at the hinge point.

I didn’t want to be the first one to be Debbie downer again but yea there’s numerous wear spots in that design. I doubt the angle iron teeth are strong enough and I give the lids close to zero chance of surviving.

I was thinking the top pin would be my weak link. First attachment made. Still learning. Not much cost into the metal. All scrap so far.

I'm not sure what angle iron you are talking about. I used tubing, flat stock. and one piece of c-channel for the mounting plate. 1/2 inch solid stock is inside the cylinder mounts to prevent deforming and to not have to drill through 1" solid steel at 1" holes.

I think he was talking about my version. Sorry about that.

This one is my Solesbee’s.
It has seen better days & they were much before me as I bought it used. Even so it has been ok, but on Utility tractors the short bottoms are more operator friendly.

An EA Wicked as big as they will make it will be my next Grapple.

Dad ran a full service fan shop for over 30 years & we still have all his equipment & our abilities, including iron workers & big saws, but I’m buying a new Grapple when the time comes because my time is more limited at this point.

After looking at the prices and heavy weight of brush grapples, I decided to make one that slides onto a quick attach plate just like pallet forks. The entire cost with disposables is still under $300. The weight is still light enough to not effect the lift capacity of a smaller tractor. It can also scale up to two grapples for one on each side of the frame.

Update please. How is it doing?

Grapple works decent for larger piles. Smaller piles fall through as expected. The only problem I had with it was getting my woman to stop playing with it so I could check the keeper pins.

I need to add another mounting point lower on the vertical mount. This will take care of the smaller piles.
