Bucket empties by itself!

The bucket on my loader will empty by itself unless I hit the joystick every 10 seconds or so. It has gradually been getting worse. It is a B7100 kubota and I bought it new in '92. Any idea how to tell what is wrong?

i just had the same thing happen to mine, when i brought it to the dealer ship they told me that a nut that holds the packing in had come loose causing fluid to bypass. I'm sure there are other causes but that was mine. here is a link to what some others told me that it might also be.

Cylinders leaking, or valve leaking. You could switch hoses between the lift and curl and see if the problem switches.

Some machines have one curl cyl, but most tractor have two. I have one curl cyl on my Power-Trac.

Generally, there are no o-rings in a spool valve. The sealing is done by very close tolerances between the spool and the bore in the valve body. They are are a lapped/honed fit-that is why you cannot buy a replacement spool.

Switching the lift and curl hoses as JJ suggested is probably the fastest way to identify a leaking valve or leaky cylinder. On a dual cylinder curl bucket, I think I'd go ahead and get both cylinder's seal kits replaced if it proves to be the cylinders. If one is leaking, the other may not be far behind. I'd want to service both curl cylinders but that's the most expensive route.

SAD NEWS the whole tractor is shot, you'll have to send it to me and I will take care of it properly :licking: You have over worked it and it has had a stroke, it'll never be the same. I am willing to give my time and efforts to give it a decent rest home :thumbsup:

Okay I'll stop now, I agree with the others. This will be one of those trial and error searchs. It could be a seal, bad valve etc... best you can do is start at one area and work your way through. I doubt it is anything real exspensive{we need a cross fingers smily}

Ditto on the orings in the valve.....usually the orings are keeping the oil from dribbling out on to the ground....they do not provide mechanical sealing internally, that's why a DCV will sometimes leak but will hold a load and function properly (except for the oily mess)

My guess for the OP would be the seals in the cyl (cyls), much more likely to fail....but don't do anything without testing first as others have mentioned

Will this work? I remove the pin at the bottom of a bucket cylinder, take both hydraulic lines off the cylinder and put caps on the cylinder. Then push or pull the rod. If it moves the seal is bad. Yes/no or other comments?

Had somewhat the same problem when I had 95 B7100..I spray WD40 Joy stick area valve/linkage never had problem after wards..no more sticking.

I know what you are talking about here, the valve/linkage gets dirty and the joystick sticks in the curl position. It reduces your pto power.

If you can pull the rod OUT when ports are plugged......seal ARE bad!

If you can't, by hand, pull rod out, you still do not know if seal is good or bad!!!!

Push rod in, will NEVER be an option for this type of test!!!

Push the curl cyl to the extended position, and remove the hose from the control valve for the rod end of the cyl. Now, put some more pressure on the extended cyl, and hold it there and see if any fluid comes out the hose. If it does, the seals are leaking. If not, the control valve is leaking,or the relief valve may need cleaning, or is leaking.
