Thanks for the offer, would love to take you up on it too, if we ever got to your side of the world. Are you allowed to have full auto or just semi over there. Before the Port Arthur massacre in April 1996 our gun laws were very different and I did have a .223 semi-auto assault rifle. Made in Australia believe it or not. Called a AAA (Australian Automatic Arms) SAR model. The Government (and general public) reaction to this 1996 shooting was swift and strict on our gun laws. It is true we have not had any sizable massacre here since 1996 but that's the same for New Zealand and they have much less restrictive gun laws there. The statistics show our gun crime was already on the decline prior to 1996 so don't believe anyone saying it was these gun laws that has saved lives. We still have lots of gun crime, every night on the news there are shootings in Australia but mainly between crims over drugs, so the criminals are shooting each other so no one cares much. But it is showing that the crims are the ones still with guns and use them on other people. So taking guns of us didn't change that.
I have read many post about your .22 ammo shortage problem funny thing is we don't have a shortage of .22 here. Shame I can't send over some for you. I have just purchased another 5000 rounds last week. No shortage or price increase of any brands here. I wonder why we can get it if you cant, just more stupidity with anything to do with guns these days.:confused3:

John we are allowed full auto and silencers here, but must go through an extensive background check and pay the $200 transfer tax to the Federal gov. for each item. The process can take up to 6 months or so. All semi auto's and handguns no problems, just the instant check (usually about 15 minutes) and out the door No waiting periods or permits in this state (Missouri). Ammo no worries, as long as you are over 18 for rifle/shotgun ammo and over 21 for handgun ammo. Gun laws vary a lot of course state to state and even in some municipality's. Chicago for instance is just now being forced into allowing residents to have handguns, and also being forced by supreme court ruling to allow gun stores inside the city limits. They are still placing lots of restrictions on it but at least a resident can now purchase a handgun legally.

Of course Chicago has had the highest murder rate in the country with the strictest gun laws in the country. We shall see if it goes down from here. I hope some day you guys will regain your gun rights down there.

The .22 ammo problem here is one of our own making. With the threat of restrictive new gun laws in early 2013, a huge hoarding process began with gun owners. Also many people who had never owned a gun before bought them and wanted to learn to shoot.

So many .22's were bought as they are so good for learning the fundamentals of marksmanship and gun handling that it put pressure on the ammo supply also. So between the fear and the general usage being up, it has put a crimp in the supply chain. I don't know when we will be able to come out of this current situation.

When this all started you could not find anything in the store, rimfire, centerfire, powder, bullets or primers. But now you can find most centerfire rounds, and primers are available again, Powder is still scarce but primers and bullets are readily available. They may be higher in price, but you can get them. The same for the guns, you can find almost anything now.

I could make a lot of money today with your 5000 rounds of .22rimfire. :cool2:

Shame I couldn't send a few cartons over to you, start a new sideline business ;)
One day my wife and I will do a trip around the US, we are talking with a few other couples about doing a motorbike tour in a couple of years when kids have finished school and off our hands :dance1: Can't wait to see your country and get a look at your gun shops.
How does the anti gun lobby over there deal with the fact that states with strict gun control have the highest crime rates. It seems common sense to me that if a criminal knows that most homes have guns inside to protect themselves then breaking in a robbing them is very risky. Like in Australia, if they know not only do most homes not have guns (and the ones that do have to have them locked in a gun safe and ammo locked up separately in another safe) and not allowed to have anything else on hand to protect your family then it's a green light to break in to where ever they like a get away with it. Just doesn't make sense for laws that seem to protect criminals

I have thought often about doing this to a GEO Tracker , these little cars had decent engines and gear boxes and were available in 4x4 and can be found often used for under 2 grand .

I've considered the same thing. I've seen Trackers in decent shape go for as little as a few hundred dollars.

If you guys can dream of it, go for it.

This is my high school senior project.
Started out as a $300 ext. Cab 4x4 ranger. I just removed the ranger body and built my own. Still needs roll bar and floor finished 20190513_071610.jpeg
