Build your own trailers

A few pictures of my trailer, I bought Dexter 7,000lb axles and all the steel, wood, LED lights and hardware for $2300, it took about a month off and on to build. My welder is a ESAB Migmaster 250 with 75/25 Argon/CO2 mix, .035 wire. It is 102" wide and 20' long, hauls like a dream! And you can't buy a trailer with 38 tie down points!<img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=297789"/><img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=297790"/><img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=297791"/>

Nice build. You must have some serious tools at your disposal

Thanks for sharing. That is one awesome trailer. Still running around with ideas on how to build a car hauler/dump trailer all in one. The photo of the raw trailer is a huge help in seeing the "guts" of the build. Thanks again for the photos.

Do you seriously not see a difference between building a welding table and building a trailer that will carry 10,000 lbs of cargo on a public road at 70 mph?
no... I've welded trailers commercially and home made weld tables.

Do you seriously think that someone who has to ask, "What size welder should I buy," is qualified to build said trailer?
Spot on ! ;) People asking newbies questions should get some hands-on experience with their new bought toys, before making anything that gets on the public roads.

Here we go again, and where the heck did those comments come from? Thought I already set forth my thought process on this entire endeavour, but if I need to do it again I can easily cut and paste.

I like your trailer. It sure looks heavy duty and you should be proud of your accomplishment. Now that you are done with it and know the cost and man hours building it, how does it fare with a boughten one that size and heftiness.

I noticed your stinger that it is hooked to. Is that the one you pull with? It sure looks lighter than a 5000# rating. All the tie downs are a real good idea by the way.

Thanks for the positive comments!
The trailer weighs 2600lbs, the axles are a combined 14,000. The biggest thing hauled with it was a 7500lb Mini Excavator.
The reciever in the photos was only used for moving it around the yard, I have a older reciever with no rating but it seems stronger than the 10,000lb rated ones.
I shopped for months and decided in the middle of other projects that I needed another, but it was so much fun building it it really went by quickly.
I bit the bullet back in 2006 and built a big shop for projects like this, worth every penny!

Here's my dump trailer I built last spring.
6' x 9'
7k Dexter axle w/brakes.
I also made 16" removable wooden side boards for it (not pictured)
I've got slightly less than $1500 in it.
