Not free,but at a good price .I have built 3-4 cheaper & better built than I could buy .You must be buying good built trailers cheap

I know it'll cost more to build a trailer. But I like welding and the work on it won't be a chore to me. I find it fun.
I don't need another trailer at the moment. But will probably build a 6x12 utility trailer sometime in the future. The ones my dad owns from home depot are cheap flimsy ones. Though I think I'm gonna get some more angle iron and beef the 2 trailers up for him as they flex too much.
And he's gonna get some boards for the floor as the mesh is falling through.
I can buy other trailer that are made better than the ones at home depot cheaper than building one like them. But I love the challenge and love melting metal together. And I'm confident in my welding to produce a sound welds as I welded a tongue and coupler to an old fifth wheel camper trailer to turn it into a bumper pull and not one weld has failed on it going 70 mph down the highway with it loaded.

Considering how everything's over-priced these days trailers are actually pretty reasonable and case on point are Kaufman Trailers.
Trailer manufactures buy in bulk and can get their materials much cheaper than you and I. They also have jigs that position the steel on location for near perfect alignment. It wouldn't surprise me to find that much of their steel is delivered cut to length and ready to use...Simply stated, they're set up to to build trailers and make a profit...Plus they have to guarantee them...
