Building a hydraulic log lift for splitter

/ Building a hydraulic log lift for splitter #41
After remodeling mine by putting a honda engine and pump on it to make it self contained it really puts out the wood. Cycle time is around 7 sec, not a 2 stage pump. As I still use the T type knife, as the block stays together for the next push with just two pieces coming off the bottom leaving the main block in one piece. Really cuts down on picking up the other half for resplit.

sorry for jumping in on the thread, but I have a question to ask of log lift people.
I am building a splitter for my L4400 to run off of a PTO pump.
I want to add a log lift.
what is better (more useful) a conventional lift that you have to roll the rounds to, or one that has a boom with tongs?
maybe this question has been asked?
if so, can you direct me to the thread?
thanks,
topo

Sizzami,
WOW, My lands, what a set up. would it be possible to post more pics from different angles?
I don't see a hitch. how do you stabilize the splitter when lifting?
did you fab the boom set up, or was it an existing set up?

I cant seem to find my other pics I will take some more , I built the entire thing from scratch one winter . it has a trailer hitch on it and a manual slide out outrigger on the side away from the loader.

Hi
My splitter - details:-
10 Hp Kohler - 16gpm pump - 5 inch ram
Secondary pump driven off coupling too main pump via belt - Toyota power steering pump which drives --
Hydraulic lifter , conveyor and conveyor swivel.
This started off as a horizontal splitter. then vertical on ground and then to raised vertical - would never go back to any of the former methods. This still remains a work in progress

Sizzami! you got a video of that thing working? I like the hydraulic grapple! Why walk over to the log to hook up when you can reach out and touch someone?

Can someone help me with the geometry of swing for my log lift ? I just can't get it right . If I get the lift I need then it won't go all the way down. If I get it down all the way then it won't go up high enough ? Idk ? I have a 10" stroke cylinder. I have moved both mounting points multiple times . What am I missing ?

Can you show us some pictures. You have enough pressure to lift just about anything, so secure the shaft end mounting point on the log lift. The closer that point is to the hinge, the faster it will lift. Then move the base of the cyl to a point, that when retracted, the log lift will be on the ground. You don't have to use the full 10 in stroke, if the mounting point can not be achieved.

The lift will go higher and faster if you move the lifting point closer to the hinge.
