You mentioned riprap in your reply about the overflow. Is it expensive there? Instead of spending so much time adding dirt to the inside of the dam to make it safer for people to get out of the water if they slide in, would it be possible to add riprap to the to of the dam where the water will be? This is done on large Reservoirs to control erosion from the waves of the Reservoir, and to discourage animals from digging into the dam, but it would also make it a lot easier to get out of the water if somebody fell in. As it is, with what you are doing now, I don't see it being any easier to get out of the water with the additional soil that you are adding.

Too steep at the moment to add rip rap. Would take a bunch because it would roll to the bottom at this slope so the entire slope would have to be rocked. Will bring the slope out as planned then only add rock at the waterline later if erosion becomes a problem.

Yep. Good plan.

Maybe cut in a little ledge just below the W/L to allow for the addition of rip rap? Would seriously help cut down on the amount needed if you added later. I would be inclined to add it now while dry though.

Rip Rap might be a cosmetic addition if that appeals. It certainly won't be needed for erosion in this Lake. Can't imagine any sizeable waves. :)

Jeremy, we've got an inch of snow and it's still coming down.

I think the rip rap could definitely help especially on the softer disturbed manmade dam portion helping protect it while the vegetation takes decent hold. If you don't get much wind, maybe it's overkill but I would hate to have to try to shore it up later thus the suggestion about making a ledge.

I'm basing my wind comment on the surrounding timber. :)

Well... JK did just cut a large swath through his forest. Let's hope he didn't create a wind tunnel! :D

That right there would be my luck!!!!

This project has exceeded anything I envisioned in the beginning.

he might need a "NO WAKE" zone close to the dam.
