Building multi-purpose flatbed/dump trailer?

Hello everyone! I am curious if ya'll know of a great source of tandem axle trailer "kits" ? I want to save some cash and weld the trailer body/frame myself, but the hardware, axles and such are what I am in search for. I DO have a pair of mobile home axles with electric brakes I could rebuild, but they're in a "standard rough" shape, as if pulled out from under a 20 yr old mobile home. I assume I would have to cut them down, but that is not a big issue. Material costs are my primary concern. I do have access to a great selection of steel supply house's "scraps" for them, scraps are anything shorter then 5 ft. And I pay bye the pound scrap prices for all the different shapes. The full length pieces 20 ft or 10 ft pieces are full price, but that is fine /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I am trying to get together a 10,000 lb tandem axle trailer to carry a 7,000 lb tractor. If it is possible to combine these neads with a dump bed, that would be spectacular!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone! Brian Lee, Sparkeee24

I built an 18' tandem axle trailer 4 years ago, and used Champion Trailer for all the running gear. They were very helpful and easy to work with. I bought both axles, springs, hangers, spindles to match my truck wheels, break-away box, bulldog hitch, fenders, and all the running lights from them. They also packed it up so it could be delivered by UPS to my door.

BTW, unless you can get most of the steel you'll need at a real good price, you will most likely spend more to build yourself a trailer, than it would cost to buy one. It is fun to build it yourself, but not cheap if you have to buy all the components..
