Log Cabin building will be a dying art. Up in my area you need 24 inch dia logs to meet the building code insulation requirements. Plus I am in the bush and need a fireproof house.

Building codes are a fact of life like em or not, fortunately where we built there is none in place. We are in the Porcupine forest and I guess if there is a fire we will probably lose our cabin. But understand this we built this Cabin as such never to be a full time home. We as a family love to ride our quads and the area where we built has really hundreds of miles of forest trails to ride. We have moose elk bear and deer on our area as the norm. There are people who build log homes to live in year round and I can see the need for some control however ours was designed to be a weekend getaway for us and our kids and in 6 months our future grandchildren. we wanted something simple but something that would also stand out from the arary of shacks and garage packages that were built around us. So far its been a trying but fun ride and soon we hope to enjoy the fruits of our labour. And as you say it is a dying art I personally don't think so as people will find a way to work around codes or at least I hope so.

I have got some pictures of my planer to post. I have not used it yet as I currently don't have a 220 plug for 15 amp in my shop. I have an old westinghouse breaker box, hard time to locally find breakers to fit it so I have to wait to go to the city to Home Depot to get them. I got two sets of blades extra with the machine with the blade setter as well. DSCF5125.jpgDSCF5126.jpgDSCF5127.jpg

Nice, 15" planer, just a point, this planer needs to be connected to a 20 amp circuit not 15 amp.

Rmorey thanks for the tip. the cord has 2 flat ends side by side and the third ground I thought this was a 15 amp plug.

What does the tag on the motor say for amp draw? Being 220 it won't be that high. But there will be peak loading where it will spike to maybe double or triple the continuos amperage. Some motors will state the peak and continuos amperage on the name plate.

Unable to find a peak listing, just show 12amp 2hp 230 volt, however there is one mark on the plate that says am s 40 don't know what that is

Very interesting thread.
But why is the first post dated 2-08-2013?
I'm sure this hasn't all happened in 40 days.
