The only concern I would have is the soil holding moisture getting damp and rusting the bottom off the container. You may not have much of an issue with the sandy soil.

This is a compacting soil, so a sand, clay mix that has rocks in it too. It can hold moisture but not like clay, but it doesn't drain like sand either.

The guy that owns the trucking/ container company (in the pics) also sells them. He quoted me $2200 for a 20' and $3200 for a 40'. Is that about what you paid? He also makes mobile offices out of them and even made 3 bedroom, 3 bath, triple wide portable oil-well bunk houses out of them. They use plasma cutters for the doorways, it's way less expensive than OA torch.

I paid $5000 for a 40' double-door, high cube container. $365 for tax and another $300 to deliver it 150 miles on site.

Here it is.

That's a new one. Eddie didn't tell me the age, but obviously I'm getting the "friend" price break. Truth is I was inquiring for someone else who has this crazy idea about underground housing in New Mexico.

This one has been used once. But it looks like it never saw any sea time as it looks brand new except for a scratch-ding on the other end. I looked up the RAL paint codes and ordered what I think is the right color in a rattle can (RAL-9001). This container looks brand new on the inside too and the second door still has the original factory seal bolted on.

So why did he drive back and forth 100,000 times just before he set it? I get that the earlier maneuvers were about trying to get the rig backed into place (which looked difficult...), but I was puzzled by all the back and forth...

Nice area up by Park Rapids I hear. Haven't been there as of yet though...

It rained the night before and he was getting stuck. Off camera, I scraped a mud hole off so he could swing wide.

You're west WI. Spooner area?

The metal in those containers is fairly thin even the load bearing members (formed sheet metal); up here in the NW I have seen them set directly on the ground and they rust out pretty fast. The way they are handled, the paint on the bottom gets scratched and gouged a lot. A lot of guys use them around here. Contractors set them on the ground but farmers set them up on sleepers set in crushed gravel and some air space underneath if they are for long term storage or a shop. Food for thought!
