Bulldozer and 3/4 ton truck

I was really looking to buy a JD 350c when the D3 came along...

In some ways it's a blessing not to be able to move my D3... When I first got it... a lot of "Friends" had projects they wanted me to do.

As soon as I mentioned the least expensive transport started at $250 one way... that took care of it.

Many have asked to use my little BX23... I tell them it's really a toy and breaks easily so I wouldn't want them stuck with a big repair bill should something happen...

The only thing I loan out is my old trailer... it's already banged up and I've got $300 into it... bought it from my Uncle who bought it new in 1964.

Local Kubota Dealer, (no longer a dealer) had a brand new BX25 in the shop totally torn down two years ago... it had less than 10 hours on it... the guys brother-in-law ask to borrow it and filled the tank with regular gasoline and severely damaged the engine by running it until it seized.

So, sometimes it's good not to be able to accommodate everyone.

Ya my wife's grandfather has a 50's D3 and it is completely untrailerable for us. Which is why its in such good shape.
Now a quick question on my gas 310. It has a generator that doesn't work at all. What would I have to do to convert it to an alternator?

Just want to chime in as a nortrac dozer owner, great little machine for the size and price. I have owned other dozers so I am not a stranger to the machines. When I bought this 1 I wanted something that I could use in close quarters{woods} without tearing everything up. Considered buying used again, but didn't have enough meds on hand for others head aches. IMO the nortrac dozer is a strong reliable small machine that will get the job done. Plus the 3pt hitch is nice to have.

OH by the way it will easilly take out a 12" stump, and much larger. Just like with any machine size of machine needs to be considered when looking at size of job!!!!!!

Have you had any trouble finding parts or a repair person? How has the machine held up?

If it is 12volt... some of the speed shops/marine shops sell a small single wire alternator that I have used to convert from generator to alternator... never worked on a 310.

You might just need a set of brushes?

My generator was dead on my 310 when I bought it. I went down to the local auto parts store and bought an alternator for a 1975 Camaro for $35. Was an easy adaptation. But that was years ago.

AS stated need to know voltage and if negative or positve ground to get set up correctly.

I'd think that regardless it could be done, there must be an easy way to step 12v down to 6v, right?

If you can, I'd definately go to alternator over generator, I could never get mine to work on my case 310C. I could'nt even find brushes to fit, but then I didn't try all that hard.

Check out crawler heaven for parts.

I will chime in here. I have a Jinma tractor that is the same as Northern. They are all made by Jinma then re-badged. Anyway I find it easier to get parts for it than I do my Ford 861. I have really not needed many in 700 hours of ownership. I use my tractor hard pushing snow in the winter, bush hogging and pulling a 2 bottom plow in the summer, and 70% of my use is logging in the fall. The parts I have replace are just a thermostat, steering hydro hose, and a starter. The starter gave me troubles from day one and they came out with new improved version so I got it at around 100 hours and have not had a single issue since. The thermostat just stuck. The steering hose was rubbing and I noted it but did nothing to fix it and wore a hole in it, my fault 100%. I have ordered some add-on's and the prices are very good and parts are to my door in 2-3 days.

My starter was $180 and I got the thermostat at Auto Zone. The hose was $13 and he does flat rate shipping box for like $3.85. Guy 2 doors down that I plow for has a 35ish HP JD with R4's. He had his starter go and I think he told me it was something like $600.

The guy who advertises at the top of the page, Affordable Tractors (Jerry), has more parts than any JD dealership I have been too. You could build a tractor from scratch. There are plenty of other parts guys out there also, just search the net for Jinma Parts.

I have hired a couple Case 1150s with operator for work on our property. I wouldn't go any smaller for the amount of work they can do. The twelve foot blade doesn't stop for stumps or larger rocks. The final grade I can handle with a wheel tractor.
I learned this after hiring a JD 550. They get little accomplished due to their weight and hp. There is just no substitute for a large heavy dozer if there is real work to be done.
