Bulldozer and 3/4 ton truck

Hi guys, new to the site but thought I would post as I was in a similar situation as the OP.

I looked at many skid steers, 4x4 tractors, dingos, etc.. demo`ed many & when it came down to a purchase I bought the Magna Trac struck crawler 4800 used with attachments.

Ill say this, I was skeptical until I ran it & then I was convinced, I have made back a good part of my purchase & that was within 6 months, I needed a niche machine that could do the ugly stuff & the struck fit the bill, I have moved uprooted trees, dug out foundations (rocky soil), spread gravel, plowed snow, etc..

The only problem I had was the one track would jump off....easy fix & for $80.00, havent had any other issues....you would not regret the purchase, yes it is expensive!! but its built very well, american made & will do more than you think...........you WILL make your money back if that is your intention! easily moved with a pickup!! IMO better than a bobcat/skidsteer..easily!!!

Since you are new... BTW, Welcome to TBN... :welcome: there's a rule that you must post photos of your Magna Trac :D . . . (ok, it's not an official rule... more like my rule :p)

There is a really nice old D8 for sale near us for 6500$, it would be a monster and clean up a lot of stuff, but it could be such a money pit. Instead I went out and bought a really heavy 8 ft 6 way hydraulic rear blade. I can pretend to do some dozer work that way!

I have been looking at bulldozers for 6 months off and on and really need something 30-40 hp that weighs less than 10k pounds (trailer capacity is 12,500k). I want to be able to move it with my diesel powered F250. I found one @ northern tool for 15k, 30hp and weighs a little under 7k lbs. It sounds ideal and most of the reviews are positive. I will be clearing underbrush and after my property gets a thin cut, cleaning up some left behind trees about 12" in diameter, nothing real heavy. I need to be able to get in some tight spots and can't have anything too big. i looked at a Case 1150C, but it weighed 29k lbs and will probably leave too big a footprint. Any thoughts???

I pulled a D-3 with 3/4ton chevy"gas motor".
I own a D-31p pulls easy with my 1ton diesel, nice little Dozer picked it up for $6500

I just got a Komatsu D20p6, it pulls great behind my 3/4 ton Dura/Allison with a deckover bumper pull trailer. It's amazing to me what even a little dozer can do.

I agree even a small dozer will do alot, it will take more time but depends on what ones situation is?

I figure this, when the machine breaks or gives ya problems & it will!!!!!! you will no doubt be in some god forsaken hole that no other non-crawler machine will even be able to get to, my Magnatrac weighs under 4000lbs so if it craps out on me I should be able to atleast drag it outta the hole?

I had a JD 440, old machine but nice...well when the output shaft broke I was in a hole & at over 6000lbs thats not an easy pull, local farmer had to pull me out & to work on that thing..........wow! 2 men & a boy with tools for a D-9, with the struck a 1/2inch, 3/4 or 9/16 does just about all!!!

Be very carefull thinking this way it may cause you to find even more equipment in a hole. Just because the machine only weighs 4000lbs does not mean puling it out of muck and suction type clay will only be 4000lbs.

LOL, true but I dont usually take equipment in to the hole that shouldnt be there & gettin a 4000lb machine out is much easier than a larger one!

I know just the difference in messing with tracks is night & day between the 2 machines & with only a 2000lb difference........Ill change tracks on the struck any day over a JD 440 or 450.........I guess the key is dont break down? boy if that was only possible?
