Nice job and good pictures. Hopefully Ill get mine done before next summer. Im thinking of doing a metal canopy too, supported by square tubing posts attached to the FEL mounting frame. I would then run 2 diagonial tubes from the front of the canopy to the top of the brush guard. Im sure you have thought of this so if you beat me to it let me know.

walt awesome job. would it be too much to ask for measurements of the skid plate and grill gaurd?

what is the silver metal plate on top of the grill garurd for ?

i have some 3/16 diamond plate steel here that i think will work great.

my hunting buddy is buying some land recently timbered, and we are goin to us my bx 2200 to dlear lanes and drag tree tops out of the way. i see a skid plate as invaluable

I have just moved and have been off-line for a few weeks. I will measure and get you the dimensions of the skid plate & grill guard.
The silver plate is where a magnetic 55 watt flood light attaches, vs. a permenent mount

This morning I discovered a flaw in my design for the lower skid plate, that I imagine is going to cost big $$$$!!!
As previously stated, I just moved from the CT. river valley, to the a rocky gravel driveway home, in NW CT.
As I was plowing my driveway for the 2nd time in four days, I pulled up a 6" x 8" round "potato" stone.
The stone whacked the lower skid plate, and drove the eye bolt into the lower axle housing, cracking it.
At this point, I have lost a gallon of Super UDT fluid, 10 hours after the damage.
As you might conclude, I will be using a different method to hold and attach the rear plate tight to the rear axle.

As most things happen for a reason, this gives me a chance to have the differential lock repaired, as it was not working this a.m. either. I should mention the driveway is approx. 400' long, ending with a 15% climb (100') to the street.

I hope I can get it on the trailer, to bring to the dealer on Monday. At this point, the BX 2200 is off the line.
The skid plate did it's job, but the eye bolt attachment point did the damage.....and it might snow again Wednesday......"YIKES"

Perhaps bullet proof, but painfully not rock proof!!!!!!!!

Walt,

Sorry to hear of your bad luck.

Thanks for sharing that with us. I plan on making a skid plate for my B2910 in the Spring, and will be sure not to have anything sticking up that could cause damage should the plate be pushed up by something.

Might not have been as careful as I will be now!

Good luck on the repair and hope it doesn't hurt the pocket book too bad.

As promised, here is the rest of the story:

I picked up my tractor from the dealer on 24 Dec. 2002, just in time to plow the 9" snow that fell on christmas day/nite.

While the rear of the tractor was apart, I advised the dealer to also inspect the differential lock, which was not engaging.

The total bill for repair was $1304.00
This included the transmission case:$390.00
The differential lock was in pieces, and needed replacement. S-UDT, seals and O-rings added up to an additional $225.00.
The labor was $650.00, of which the dealer gave me a break, and charged 10 hours labor. I would imagine the job took 2x that time, as every part of the rear of the tractor had to be removed.

The silver lining in this fiasco is that the same work would have had to be done to repair the differential lock, and that is now repaired as well.

Due to my experience, be careful when engaging the lock. Hold firm pressure on the foot pedal, while slowly engaging the hydro pedal, and you will feel the diff. lock engage. Release the lock pedal when traction is restored.

To finish this tale of whoa, I removed what is now a $1300 eye bolt from the skid plate, and reattached the rear hold-up chain, using a 3/8" repair link through the original eye bolt hole.
Upon inspection, this set-up works fine, with no ridgid piece to damage the parts your are trying to protect.

I hope you can learn from my engineering mistake, not repeat it, but protect your tractors vunerable underside.

Looking forward to better luck in 2003

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Walt,

Glad you got the tractor back...pushing 50 degrees here in Pgh...tractor fever is abounding at the moment...

Quick question. Do you feel that you somehow did in the differential lock by not engaging it properly?

Happy New Year to all!

The silver lining in this fiasco is that the same work would have had to be done to repair the differential lock, and that is now repaired as well.

How long has the differential lock been inoperational? Was that due to your modifications, or prior to that (your post indicates it was broken for a while)? Wouldn't the differential lock repair be a warranty item, or did your skid plate modifications void the warranty?
