I did it on Saturday.
A few weeks ago I dug a trench for a water line to our back yard. I backfilled it and left it to settle for a few weeks before replacing the sod. We got some rain over the two weeks, which I figured was good for settling the soil.
Saturday I went out to run over the trench to pack it down one more time, and it happened. I ras running parallel to the trench with the right-side wheels over the trench to pack it down. It was fine at first, but when I got to the other end it started acting like a waterbed. When I'd push down in one place the soil surface would pop up further down the trench. There was clearly heavy water saturation not far below the surface. Then it happened: the right side of the tractor started sinking. Right down to the axels. It's a good thing the trench was only 16" wide 'cause it was like quicksand and I think it would have swallowed the whole machine if it was bigger.
I was thankful for the backhoe. A little down pressure on a solid spot to lift up the back of the tractor, followed by a swing and push with the boom and I got the rear onto solid ground enough to back out.
Sorry - no pictures and no suit.
