Well, whomever digs that story out of him should get a pulitzer for investigative story telling! Sure would like to read it. Wonder if Glenn uses it for a golf cart? Could give some fantastic advantages in some of those 'lies' (meaning where the ball landed). If he gets the hoe, then fishing for a ball in a water trap would be handy.

As I've mentioned before, being separated from my tractor for weeks at a time yet wanting to do tractor stuff, has led me to forming a nasty habit -- buying stuff!!!

As the ground starts to get muddy and the real rains haven't yet begun, I started having visions of sinking my 'Bota up to the axles and having no way to get it out. I can't count on getting another vehicle close enough to the places where this could occur, and as much as I like the idea of a winch, that doesn't seem like a very cost-effective way to go, assuming (praying) I wouldn't need it much.

Then I remembered that our wise buddy (and practically my neighbor), RobertN, pointed out something called a "Jack Mate" in a previous post

I reviewed this product and decided I would feel better having something like that sitting in the shop, just in case. I started to place my order when I suddenly realized that the 50 bucks was just for the little hunk o' steel that slips over the jack and does not include the jack itself.

I didn't place the order.

That night I had the same visions of my little 'L' slowly disappearing into the mire, and how much it would be worth to me to have that jack rig standing by. The next day I up and bought a 48-inch Hi Jack ($65) and went ahead with the Jack Mate purchase.

So now I'm sleeping better, even though I've done nothing more than to lean on my new jack rig (see attachment), but a new vision is creeping into my subconscious wherein my tractor is in the bog and I'm standing there, jack in hand, thinking "... but you don't have enough chain!".

There one on the farm here somewhere,and you swear that was made from a rail that the trains run on..HEAVY and its a old timer. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

You might consider a wider plate for the bottom of the jack,for its not to stable when the jack 50% up on soft ground.

Way cool! Have you tried it on anything yet? I'm real curious, since I have not been able to make it over to Central-4wd to pick one up yet.

I swear by the trusty hi-lift. I've unstuck fence posts, and pickup trucks with it.

Not yet.

This every-other-weekend warrior routine makes things kinda happen in slow motion. I'm still keeping my eye out for a good deal on a long hunk o' chain, but maybe I'll find something to test the jack on during my next trip up.

Got some decent rain down here in the bay area. Howzit it going up there in the tractor hills?

We got a pretty decent soaking. Now's when I am not as excited by my turf tires. I want R4's, but it's ~$900 for rims and tires /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif That red clay, mixed with wet oak leave, is as I say " slipperier than fresh snot on a wet hogs nose!".

For hose, check C&H auto parts in Placerville. That'd be out of your way, but they carry chain. I don't have the number at work /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif A NAPA dealer in the foothils should carry decent chain too.

I forgot to mention that if you're thinking about getting a Jack Mate, you might want to order it from their web site for $50 plus shipping. I saw it at a local 4WD shop and they were asking $75 -- that's more than the jack cost! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Also, NAPA carries chain? Just this week I found out I could get all the filters for my 2500 from them, and I picked them up this morning. Didn't occur to me to ask about chain.

Just checked my Volcano phone directory and, by golly, there's a NAPA Auto Parts right there in Jackson.
