Bush Hog

I have just bought a new tractor. I had an older Kubota with a 6 ft Befco finish mower that is in good shape. I am getting a new rear finish mower with my new tractor and i have a few uses for a bush hog. I have been thinking of trading it in on a bush hog because my dealer said that he would do that for me. Which should I get. I want something about five feet in width and I plan on just doin some small cutting. It is just to rough for a finish mower. Which should I get?

I've got a Rhino 'hog (mines 48"). It works quite well - before I got my lawn tractor I'd sometimes use it on my lawn if I let it go for too long and it wasn't a bad cut, even though the blades aren't sharpened. I beat it up pretty bad - rocks, the occasional t-post, and lots of wood. It is supposed to handle wood up to 2", but I've hit 4" stuff and it knocks those out really well. It is the only one I've had, so I can't compare it to anything else, but I like it and would recommend it.

Have you been pleased with your Befco finish mower? Befco makes a nice brush mower, they have 3 different grade: standard, medium and heavy duty, there light duty is heavier than alot of the cheaper brands heavy duty. If you have been happy with the befco product and your befco dealer i would stick to them. If you concerned about price king cutter is a decent cheaper unit also sundowner is good cheaper brand.

For light cutting, you might want to consider a JD LX5. Cutting height is 1 to 9 in and brush cutting capacity is 1 inch. You'll need minimum tractor PTO power of about 18HP.

For medium duty cutting of about 2-3 inch capacity, consider the MX5. See attachment of my MX6 for sense of what they look like.
