Buy a Massey Ferguson!

Ok, so my city roots are showing :) Point well taken about underdog. We've got 2 big JD dealers close by, and lots of suburban properties have various levels of JD lawn/garden/subcut tractors. Massey is definetely more agricultural, and I like that! The dealer I bought from is a bit smaller, but sells lots of Kubota lawn & garden equipment to our capital city government, plus they sell all the big ag equipment. My salesman specializes in L&G equipment, so he was excellent in explaining all my questions and quickly understanding what I wanted. For suburban properties, it seems JD and Kubota BX series are popular. Not nearly as many smaller Massey's around. CaseIH/New Holland CUT's are getting more popular, as more dealers are now selling the smaller line. Lots of suburban small acreage growth around here, so the dealers are following suit. Capitalism at its best :)

Besides, Massey has good Canadian roots. Too bad they don't make Cockshutt any more. I'd love to tell my city co-workers what tractor I have.......

UNDERDOG??????????????????

Massey is the #1 selling tractor brand in all the world. Maybe not the "trendy" name like Deere, but definately not an underdog. Ya done good!

I would respectfully disagree with you. We just did a side by side comparo between Massey, Kubota, NH and Deere. Massey scored the worst in every aspect. The only thing it had going for it was the price. Sorry, but that's we bought the Deere.

Your opinion doesn't change the undeniable fact that Massey outsells every brand on a worldwide basis.

No dealers in my area that I am aware of, or I certainly would have liked to check out the Massey Ferguson machines when I was shopping for a tractor..

Green and yellow hats and t-shirts on teenagers don't mean it's a better machine than a red, orange, or blue one. Deere may be trendy, and may be a good tractor, I've never operated one. I don't need to, I have a MF.

My oldest tractor has been with me for 35 years now. 2nd oldest has been here 28 years. Older one is Massey. #2 is Deere. So, I've done my own "side-by-side" for a good long time. Granted, I'm not comparing a certain model of compact against another compact. I'm comparing the ownership experience of Massey vs. Deere.

It's basically a wash. Consider all the hype that goes with owning a Deere and that becomes the tiebreaker in my opinion.

Deere has always been #1 or #2 as far as expensive parts. (New Holland will give Deere a run for their money in that catagory. Got one of them too) I've never had any trouble getting parts for either. AGCO has their act down on parts, same as Deere. Service is a dealer to dealer issue. Reliability? With MY tractors, that nod goes to the Massey. Again, that's a case by case issue. Initial cost? Massey by a mile. Operating cost? With what tractors I've owned, the Massey won that hands down too. (Hard to compare though. The Deere I own is 1/3rd more HP, and the Massey uses the Perkins 152-3, probably the most fuel efficient diesel on this planet)

I have no real complaints with Deere. Likewise I'm happy with Massey Ferguson. Not sure which brand I'd buy today, but it would be more "model vs. model" than "brand vs. brand"

So, unless someone can give me specifics on comparable models, I'll just dismiss any "MY brand is better" claims as so much hype. And I'll keep using my Massey 'till the day I die.

I looked over just about every compact from Massey, New Holland, Deere and Kubota in sub compact, compact, mid size compact, and full size compact and I just don't see how you could make this claim. In my opinion the Massey rates as one of the best in most ranges.

I wound up recently buying a Deere 2320 which is closest in size to the 1523. It was a close call and I can honestly say that the Deere is really not much better than the Massey and costs a couple k more. I wound up buying the Deere because I thought the ergonomics were a little better and the price was not really an issue for me, so I bought what I wanted. However, If I was pinching pennies a little closer the Massey would be the one as I liked it as well as the New Holland and thought the 1523 was nicer than the Kubota 7610.

You seem very knowledgeable about equipment. I'm just curious but what size is your JD and your Massey. Also you say you have a New Holland, what size is it if you don't mind me asking.
