Price Check Buy slightly used with attachments or new from dealer?

/ Buy slightly used with attachments or new from dealer? #31
I just purchased a Max 28 with 43 hours on it.
Came with a loader, backhoe, loaded tires and 5' box Blade and 4' years of warranty left, got the whole package for 8k$ less than new, happy so far.

To me I would buy used if all is working ok.
On the warranty, contact the manufacturer, check on transfer of warranty.

Thanks for all of the help, guys. I found a second BX1870 with 10 hours on it with a backblade, loader, and MMM for $10,500. Would need to ship it up here. I also found a very clean BX2370 with loader and MMM for $13,000. Both would need to be shipped/transported up to me. I'm not sure if the larger one is worth the extra $2,500. I would like to think I would get a snowblower some day, but I could almost buy one with the price difference. I heard that the BX1870 has less loader capacity then a BX2370 and a smaller front axle -- not sure if that would be a big concern to any of you all.

Hours per year? Hard to estimate. I would be on the low end of the spectrum. I am a homeowner with some acreage and I would use it to mow, help move around brush and debris, clean out some foliage around a pond, and clear snow in the winter. We have pretty snowy winters so I would see that being 50% of my hours per year.

To me the 2370 is worth the extra money, will work easier and less wear and tear on the tractor.
The extra HP will be nice if and when a snow blower arrives at your sight.

Higher HP will allow a lower rpm work level, again less wear and tear on the tractor, unless you need the extra power.

I had a 24 HP SC2450 tractor before this Max and it was great for moving snow with the FEL, digging was easier with the BH and moving pile of dirt and stone was an easy task for the 24 HP Diesel, something smaller would have been a problem.
I did plan on a front mounted SnowBlower but I moved to SoCal instead.

Good Luck on deciding.

Well, that's one way to get around the snow issue.

I think I just need to take the time and walk into a Kubota dealership. I have yet to sit on one of these or check them out in person.

Yes, you need to go and do that first!

Whoa! I didn't realize you hadn't done any test drives! You definitely need to find the one that "feels right." I like Kent Equipment up in Sparta for Kubota. The shopping experience at Kubota of West Michigan would have been comical if I hadn't been trying to buy a tractor. If you decide to drive a green one, I bought mine at Greenmark in Hastings and they were great to work with.

Checked out the BX1870 and BX2370 tonight. Definitely liked the BX2370 more. I also got a call back on a lead for a BX2370 with 119 hours in another state for a good price. More to come tomorrow, we might have a winner. Thanks guys for the help!

Sounds like you are making progress, definitely do the test drives. On the slightly used VS new - I bought My Kubota a year old with 70 hours on it. Great condition and a few thousand cheaper than a new one. I didn't get the warranty, but also didn't need it (very few do). I didn't get the financing (didn't need it). What I did get was a great tractor, which had just had a 50 hour service (saved me $), was serviced again by the dealer as part of the deal and a few thousand extra dollars in my pocket. Its been a few years and I'm very happy. In fact I have also bought all my implements slightly used too and feel like most could be sold for what I paid or more.

In your test drives do spend some time getting the feeling for how it is to run the machine. I thought I wanted a JD (had one before), but didn't like the feel VS the Kubota. If test driving a used one there are some simple tests to do to make sure the Hydraulics all work etc, do some searching and you can find the topic well covered.

Looks like you have made the normal progression of upping hp and slightly bigger frame/size/weight that most of us have done during our pursuit of a SCUT and some even move up to the CUT size. From what your describing and also my experience of finding more things to do with a SCUT after owning one that never entered your mind before I think you should now go forth. BX2360/BX2370 low hours, well maintained, documented history, clear paid off liens. Buying from a private owner may make this a bit more difficult, especially the no liens part where a dealer will know this. Also a dealer owned one will have been inspected by knowledgeable mechanics. Can you get one cheaper from a private individual? Maybe and maybe not. Buyer beware is the key word buying from individuals. Good luck.
Yes, that guy with initials of JT is a loon and has quit buying, again.:D

Well, I'm not testing driving -- looks like I will be picking up a lightly used unit from Barlow's. They will ship it up to me here in MI. They will change the fluids and filter just to be sure. They are cheaper than any individual I saw in any of the nearby states -- kudos to them. I checked out a 1025R last night and while it is a good looking tractor with a lot of features it just seemed too expensive, too much plastic, and it seemed much more of a large mower than a loader tractor. It has better ergonomics, to me, then the Kubota but it didn't warrant the price increase and potential mechanical issues I have read about (auto connect, loader valve, etc.).

No onward to the fun part -- buying other stuff for the tractor. I am thinking a skidplate from BXpanded is a must have? Maybe also the cutting edge for the bucket? This summer I am going to keep an eye out for one of those non-permanent vinyl cabs -- I don't want a regular cab and want the ability to remove it in the non-winter months.
