Re: buying a "land grader"/"leveling blade"/"bionic blade"

Learn how to use your box blade and it won't butcher things up, they do a fantastic job if used properly. There is a thread here in the attachment section about how to adjust your top-link to get the nice finish we all love. It's lots cheaper then going out to buy another implement that already does what your box blade will do. Just my two cents.

A a good operator with a box blade may be able to do a good job on a road but definitely not as quick or easy as a land plain. Once the land plain is set correctly for your job you basically just drive your road with little adjustment. You can't say that about your box blade, every time your front or back wheels go into a hole or over a lump you have to compensate adjusting the box blade up or down and very hard to get right and leave a smooth finish. Can be done just not as easy :2cents:

I would suggest you use both a box blade and a land plane grader scraper for a couple of years and report back your experiences. It takes a lot of time to be proficient with a box blade and some people have other things they need to spend their precious time on. Time is money so for some people buying or building a lpgs is a reasonable trade off. I personally have a great amount of seat time with box blades and have less time with lpgs but for the average guy the lpgs will do the job of smoothing a driveway and free up time to spend with their family.

My point is whether it is cheaper or not depends on how valuable your time is.

Ever notice that most negative comments regarding LPGS implements are from people that do not have or have not used the implement? ;)

Re: buying a "land grader"/"leveling blade"/"bionic blade"

Hmmmm. I use my roll over box blade (ROBB) to move dirt and roughly level/smooth out trails & roads on the property. Then the LPGS is used for final leveling and smoothing. I simply have not developed the finesse or technique to do these jobs all with a single implement. As a matter of fact, I have no intention of ever getting to that point as long as there are implements with specific job functions that allow easier & satisfactory completion with less time involvement.

My post wasn't meant to be negative what so ever.
If suggesting someone play around with an implement they already own instead of going out and dropping $1200 plus on something is negative, then to the OP I apologize.

Hey, 8N Ren - you have no need to apologize. My rant had no bearing on what you said. I just know for a fact that some implements are easier to use than others. Mastery of an implement is a whole other matter. AND I completely agree with your statement in post #10.

The OP said that he has been butchering his road with his box blade and has made the decision to purchase a grader blade. He never asked about how to use his box blade or that he needed more practice. Simply asking advise about a grader blade. So would not the proper thing to do is to give advise about a grader blade? :confused3:

No worries oosik I didn't think it did.
MVR, I was under the assumption that the forum was to exchange opinions, ideas and how to's.
If you actually go back and read my original post you can see I didn't make a comment about a LPGS let alone a negative one, have fun bud.

Don't sweat the small stuff

8N Ren, the problem is you told him (the OP) he could do something with his tractor WITHOUT SPENDING MORE MONEY!

I think that is considered sacrilege here on TBN.

<said 100 percent tongue in cheek>

For the average tractor owner, I side with the LPGS guys. You can be a pro with a box blade in a few hundred hours. The LPGS takes a couple hours to get the hang of...maybe less.
