Exactly, we were talking about drag racing so you post a picture of a ram getting beat by the ecoboost after you said the ecoboost would lose?
Typical, you only read half of what everyone says...
I said if axle and tranny gearing was similar. Obviously they are not and even so there's only a 0.2 sec difference which is neglible.

Actually I read your entire posts, thus the confusion. If gearing was exactly the same, it is still inconclusive. It all depends on the length of the race vs when and where the torque and HP curves cross between the two trucks, the weight of the two trucks, wind resistance of both trucks, the altitude of the track, air density, etc. You will notice the ecoboost makes more HP than the hemi up until 5200 rpms and much more torque in the lower rpm range. This tells me the hemi needs to be wound up to make HP so a longer race would benefit it.

I will say it again for the forth time, these trucks would be very similar in a drag race. You can continue to disagree based on your bias because you wear only one hat. Please tell me the reason for your strong attachment is because your great-grandfather was Walter Chrysler or you are employed by chrysler. If not, why have they set the hook so deep?

Oh by the way, I also am still confused on another part of your post after reading it completely, twice. You mentioned: "I'll give you the variable valve timing as not "simple" but it's far from a high compression twin turbo water-cooled engine with direct injection...".
Do you not like diesel engines because they fit this description exactly?
How would you suggest the engine be cooled? Hydrogen, air, freon?

Considering it has lower HP than the GM, Toyota and Dodge engines you list then it will lose to all as long as gearing is the same. Since matching axle and tranny gearing is impossible to do, stick with plain and simple power vs unreliable high tech. In the end, Hemi 8 speed will own the drag race and mpg war with simple designs.
I'd like to see an Ecoboost in fleet trucks actually getting used for work vs drag races and towing the family boat to the lake too. Our "field trucks" get abused and that little turbo would never hold up like the good ole V8's do...

Do you actually listen to yourself babble? Hemi this, Hemi that. You are brain washed.

These turbo 5 and 6 cylinder motors are nothing new. BMW, Volvo, Audi, VW, ect have all been using them for years. Ford is just the first "American" maker to get their head out of the sand and do what the rest of the world is doing.

I commend Dodge for building a 8 speed, why cant you do the same for Ford building the best truck engine to come around since the Chevy 350?

Chris, I gave him a legitimate out for being brain washed. Hopefully we will see his answers to my questions. If he answers "no" to both of my options, then I agree.....brain washed. My guess is that he might have a daughter named Chrysler, a son named mopar, or at least a dog named hemi. Not sure what Jeff Foxworthy would call that. :)

Well I bought my new truck last night. I now know why Chevy doesn't sell a 4-door truck with a regular 6.5' box-nobody buys them.

I had to drive all over to find one like I wanted (the other dealers wouldn't make me a good deal).

I got MOST of what I wanted, the rest was livable and fixable. I got the 3.55 gears instead of the 3.73's. I was really torn on this one, but this was the only truck I could find. I didn't get the back-up camera but I'm gonna go aftermarket and get a combo GPS/camera unit. I don't like the large wheels (19" VERY shiny), but the rest of the truck is awesome.

Pics to follow shortly. This is my first new Ford, the truck so far is awesome and we avg. 19 mpg last night coming home driving 70+ MPH on the freeway. Not bad for a 4x4 4-door truck.

What are you using to give you MPG rating; on board computer?

To get a true reading fill tank, take a drive and when back home or destination fill tank again.

The onboard computers can be as much as 20% off!

I agree, especially in a very short trip. I will say that I check my mileage manually at every fill-up. My computer has never been more than .2 mpg difference than hand calculating (25 tanks to date). I always bump the nozzles auto shutoff three times to try to stay standard. I once was able to squeeze an additional 3 gallons into a tank by continuously bumping the nozzle. Have since learned that this is bad for the Evaporative system but at the time was thinking the nozzle was faulty. I have gained faith in my trucks computer but everyone should check it manually.

Chips, programmers, ect also throw them off. My neighbor just put Rpm Live on his DMAX. Computer said a 4 mpg increase but hand calculated it was 1.75 mpg

RPM live? I'm betting you are thinking of EFI Live. Its suppose to be the greatest thing since sliced bread for programing diesel trucks. My truck has and Edge chip and it throws the trip computer way out of whack.

You are right. We also did a EGR delete on it to hopefully get the reliability up. Its a 07 classic 3500.

I run Quadzilla stuff on my Fords with no issues. I have th 06 turned up about 160HP.

Yep, can't wait for EFI live for the early common rail Cummins like ours...
