Buying a pickup out of state?

/ Buying a pickup out of state? #41
Let's see, in this order (the first being in April of 01) I bought my 95 Integra GSR out of state, my 03 Cobra out of state, my 03 Lightning out of state, my 88 Mustang GT out of state, my 02 Camaro SS out of state, and my last two purchases thru Carvana. One was a 18 F150 302A FX4 crewcab 5L truck, and the other a 17 F150 501A 4x4 crewcab 3.5L truck for wifey.

In the state I was living at the time I bought a 83 BMW POS.... I mean 320i, the a 93 Civic DX (then I bought my Integra) after my Integra I bought my 99 Mustang GT in state, (then came my Cobra, Lightning, 88 GT, 02 SS) then I bought my 13 Taurus SEL, and 19 Camaro SS 1LE in state. (Then came my Carvana purchases)

Had to pay Sales Tax and other related fees.
Did you pay Nevada sales tax or Washington sales tax? I know if I buy in Oregon there will be no sales tax but California and Nevada both charge sales taxes. Tomorrow I am going to the local auto license and ask them about the whole sales tax business.

If the dealer insists on collecting the sales tax (I prefer leaving with the MSO) it'll get sorted out when the vehicle is registered in the home state.

I bought a 2009 Chevy Silverado 4x4 shortbed single cab at Mike's Trucks in Port Orange, FL. They do internet sales from all over the country, as one was being prepped for delivery to Montana when I picked up mine. It had 48k, 5.3 V8, vinyl seats, manual transfer case, tires and battery had been replaced before the sale and felt like a new truck. I paid a fair price, but it was a rust free municipal vehicle that had good maintenance, little wear and looked like it had been garaged when not used. I knew it was not going to be my primary vehicle, see little use and wanted as close to new at a fraction of the cost. I got a vehicle that would not be available in Erie, PA. due to our salt use here. A reasonably priced warranty was available, but I declined. They specialize in buying low mileage vehicles at municipal auctions for resale. 5 years and 12k after the sale, the only cost has been dressing up the WT exterior with a chrome grill, bed liner, decals, oil film undercoat and fender trim and the only maintenance has been a new battery, oil changes and tire rotation. Couldn't be happier and feel it's still worth what I paid.

Now that I decided to pry open my wallet and buy a truck I can't find one close to home. Anybody have experience buying a vehicle from out of state?
Thanks,
Eric
DO YOU WANT A SMALL FORD RANGER PICK UP OR A MACK TRIAXLE TRUCK WITH A 500 HP CUMMINS DIESEL AND A 18 SPEED TRANSMISSION ?

Were the prices competitive?
I would say so. I bought my blue 18 XLT 302A in November of 21, and if you remember that in the summer of 21 car prices went sky high, and lots were empty. People were selling their cars and trucks right and left because the dealers were paying a bunch for them to put stuff on their lots. $41,990 wasn't a bad deal for my 18 with 32,600 miles at the time I bought it.

My wife's truck is a 17, but it's MSRP was noticeably higher being a Lariat 501A truck, and it had less than 28K miles when we got it in January of 24. Interest rates are way higher now than they were in 11/2021.

BTW my 18 also has a 5.5' bed. The description says 6.5', but that's wrong.

Okay, back then pricing was completely nuts. About the only way to get good pricing was to order a vehicle, avoiding markups and inflated prices of used ones.

Case in point, I bought a '20 Trackhawk (ordered) for about $80K, had it for a year+ and sold it to Carvana for a bit more than $8K over what I had paid.

The big surprise was finding it for sale at a Kia dealer out of state...for just over $98K.

These days it's different. Last week I bought a '19 Dodge (from a dealer) for almost $10K less than what Carvana wants for similar ones. No wonder they lower their prices on many vehicles by $600-1,000 almost weekly.

Yes, I’ve bought two out of state. Not an issue. You bring either the title or bill of sale to the local MVD office in the your state of residence. They register the vehicle and collect the sales taxes.
