OP let me tell you a little story, I'll try to keep it short..

I have a neighbor that bought a JD 2305 a couple of years before I bought my Massey, he was trying to get me to buy a green tractor, when I decided on the Massey he came over to have a look, first words out of his mouth were, Gee I like the way the hydro lines don't stick out like mine do and hey your hydro filter is mounted parallel to the frame and has a skid plate to protect it and wow your loader frame doesn't stick out like mine does and wow your radiator is in the back of the engine to keep the heat off of you instead of pushed the heat towards the operator.. I am very fond of "some" JD models and would buy one in the future but "only" if the price was right..

This same neighbor was looking for a 2305 when I was selling my one year old 60hr 2305 TLB, he was interested but didn't want the backhoe, I was selling it for $15,000 and I told him I would let it go for $14,500 so he goes out and buys a new one without the backhoe for $13,500, my backhoe was worth $5000 anyway, his math skills are pretty bad I guess..

The Deere is NOT a decent price, it is an overpriced 13 year old green and yellow tractor. Most of the people here couldn't care less what you or anyone else spends there money on, When you open a thread and ask questions you will get honest answers most of the time..

From what I have read of your responses it seems to me your more worried about what you friend/neighbor is going to think of your purchase than what makes the most sense for you financially.

With that out of the way I will leave you with this, forget about your neighbor, someday he will disappear forever, might be ten years, might be 10 days, Think about a one year old quality made tractor with 69hrs vs a 13 year old quality made tractor with 1300hrs, the decision is yours..

Thanks. I do appreciate your feedback. When I say decent, I mean in relationship to the market. You may not care for JD tractors but apparently there are a bunch of people out there willing to pay the price. Some people may find Jeep Wranglers impractical and overpriced, but they sure do hold their value. My '99 TJ is worth as much and maybe more than I paid for it 7 years ago.

I'm looking at it as an investment. If I decide in a year or two I need something larger or smaller and want to trade up, what will my trade be worth? I'm not looking for a forever tractor necessarily.

I would like to purchase a tractor from my friend but by no means is that a deciding factor in my decision. He'll get over it if I go orange, red, or blue.

Thanks for the info. Those are all seriously important features to consider as I'm likely going into some rough terrain until I get the area cleaned up.

Just a quick update and a thank you for all the advise. I basically stripped down my wants to what I need. I ended up buying a 2016 NH Workmaster 33 at auction that was a leftover demo with 7 hrs on it. Has enough HP to run a decent sized flail. I got it for a good enough price that I can buy a new backhoe, flail mower, box blade and still have less money invested than if I had purchased the 13 year old JD 3520. Not as feature filled but a lot less to go wrong. Full warranty as well.

Thanks again. It helped me step back and prioritize.

Only word of caution, if BH is 3 point and NOT subframe mounted, exercise care. I have a 3 point mount on a 50 hp utility, 5000 lb tractor, rather stout. Before building a subframe mount for the BH. It would have ripped the toplink right off the tractor.


Also be aware flail mowers drain hp. Had a woods on same 50 hp utility, hated it, dealer took it back, bought a woods rotary in replacement.
