Buying off CL and the buyer wants cash

I've never seen an ATM that dispensed anything but $20s.
A lot of Credit Unions spit out $5's, my other bank gives out $10's and $20's.

Yeah, in the US, ALL violent crime is way down since the 70s. Those of us who grew up in the 60s and 70s may remember. Now, we have 24-hr news "cycle", not more crime. I recently did the tourist thing in Boston and NYC, staying in town and taking the subway, etc. Very pleasant experiences, felt safe, and looked/smelled way way cleaner than our own nearby thoroughly disgusting destination city, San Francisco.

If someone wants to buy from or sell to me off a CL ad, and insists on some sort of escrow or going to a bank, police station, etc, I am not interested. I am sure I share that opinion with most buyers and sellers. If you can afford to be that restrictive, eliminating perhaps 90-99% of customers, then you will have a tough time completing deals.

Anyone here on TBN actually see firsthand a counterfeit Franklin or Jackson in the past 20y?

I saw a fake 20 dollar bill a couple of years ago that the local hardware store owner had taken in. By the time he realized it the guy was gone, but the store owner thought that it had been in circulation for a while. He didn't turn it in because he was out the money anyways, and it wasn't worth the effort to him.
If you are selling small ticket items I understand why you don't want the hassle; but if I'm looking at a big ticket item there's no way that I'm going to some stranger's house in an unfamiliar area, carrying a sack of cash. If that's a deal breaker, so be it.

I though 100% wanted cash. Big ticket items I go and look at with no way to bring them home. If I do a deal I pay down a serious amount like 1/3+ if I have that much cash at the time or can get on my way to look at it. They have a reason for me to be around to come back with the rest of their money. Twice I met people at their storage unit when buy new pulled tires and wheels. Not my idea of a safe transaction environment for sure. So far so good but I do remember deadly CL deals in the news. Most sellers seem to be more concerned than I am as the buyer because I know where their place it and the lay out if I had to go inside. Being old and very crippled up I think is disarming in my case. CL is just not workable option for some for one reason or another.

When did banks start issuing nothing larger than $100 bills? I'm under the impression that much larger bills were available years ago. Would be much easier to deal in larger amounts but there is probably a reason such as security etc?
How about paypal for $10,000 ish amounts? Safety for payer and payee?

The $500 and $1000 bills were printed by the US Treasury until 50y ago. You could still commonly get them in the 70s and they are still legal tender, but the bills are now worth more than face value. There were larger bills, too, but they were rarely used. I once had a $500 bill.

The elimination of higher-denomination bills was done to make it harder for criminals to use cash. Of course, it makes it harder to legally use cash, too. Tough.

The EU has just stopped printing their E500 bill, tho they still have a E200. Canada only recently stopped making their C$1000 bill. Mexico has a MXN$1000 bill, and may soon print a MXN$2000 bill, but the peso is only worth 5 cents, US.

I bought my tractor for 12,500 in cash. That was $500 down when I checked out the tractor at his home and $12,000 when I took delivery a week later. We did the transaction on the side of a lonely country road. It did make me nervous, but I wanted the tractor... I was packing heat, though! He might have been as well...

Getting that much cash out of a bank was a real pain in the butt. They didn't seem happy to hand over MY money.

CASH also means no receipt, which surprises some people.

If I buy something worth more than one or two hundred $$ or so with cash I expect some type of written/signed receipt. Unless we are doing a title change.

Then, in some cases, I would have to charge you extra to cover income tax, and SALES TAX.
