BX 1800 ENGINE LIFE EXPECTANCY

I always use as a rule of thumb 5,000 hours for serviced diesel engines...
My dad sold Allis Chalmers back in the day...
It was not unheard of rebuilds in the 8,000 to 10,000 hour range...
Different era when tractors typically tallied 500 to 1000 hours per year...
Most folk with compacts put no more than 50 to 100 hours per year...
I put 1250 hours on a Yanmar and it was as good as new when I sold it...
Change the oil regularly and keep the air filter serviced and the tractor will outlive you...

I know Kubota makes good products, I have a L3010 and its a great machine, just haven't had any experience with the BX's. I also understand that there is always an exception. And yea I'm way past 40...and due for my yearly wellness checkup...better change that oil when I get it right....lol.

I honestly don't see the need to justify my experience to you. But seeing that you seem to be questioning my knowledge I'll make an exception. I spent 6 years at Waseca Kubota Tractors in Dublin and Livermore, CA and another 6 at Jenkin's Machinery/Farwest Equipment in Concord, CA., which was also a New Holland, Massey Ferguson, and Ransome/Cushman/Ryan dealer. I have been self-employed with my own equipment repair business for 6 of the last 14 years. In the middle of which I went to work for one of my customers, taking care of his fleet for his landscape contracting business, where he had nearly 100 Kubotas, Bobcats, Ditch Witches, and New Hollands combined, plus 100 trucks. It took me and 4 guys underneath me to keep it all running. If you took my statement as a knock against Kubota, you couldn't be more wrong. I doubt there are many who will sing the praises of Kubota louder than me.

First, I'm sure you know what forum trolls are which happens alot.
Second and most important to me is I honestly bow down to your broad and extensive years of experience. I don't do mechanic work, I just buy em and run/work/play with them. Have done some mechanical work but absolutely no expert and not even in the same room. The most I do mechanicaly now is service my own Kubotas.
I wasn't questioning your expertise or abilities or experience especially since I didn't know you had any. I read where you told how long lifed they can be but the no maintenance destroying one at 80 hours threw me since you did not give the reason why for those of us detailed close readers. I guess I wanted to know why an 80 hour Kubota was destroyed because of no maintenance. my uses are not anywhere extreme and I couldn't imagine it ever happening to me or most BX users.
Again, I accept you for what you saying you are whether you care or not, I still do now that you have said it.

I am certainly not a troll, lol. I try really hard not to inject fear into my posts only my experience. I also try to keep my opinions to myself unless they are pertinent. Sometimes I may post in haste and leave out information, but not to be malicious. I prefer the phone app to the online site so my haste is due more to the interface and being on the move from one job to the next.

I hope there is no animosity between us. The fact that you have owned so many different Kubotas makes your input valuable to me too.

No you are certainly not a troll. All of the postings I've read from you are accurate and very informed...You admission of putting gas in your diesel truck without blaming anyone but yourself shows that..... You have no reason to defend yourself.

VERY glad to have someone with that much experience here to help us - I monkey with them and have some knowledge but maybe 1/100th of yours if I am lucky. I have seen a lot of your posts and read them as helpful insight.

Thanks for the support guys. I think JOHNTHOMAS and my paths just hadn't really crossed before, so he didn't know anything about me or my experience.

Looks like my BX will out last me:laughing: I have a 2200 with about 675 hours I purchased new in 2002, at about 62 hours a year of use and expected life of 6000 hours on the engine, that is 96 years of service! Got to love it:drink:
