I am at the office right now /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. When I get home, I will lookup and share the exact weight and cost. (I never trust my memory..... that's why I keep records on everything /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif)

The wheel weights would be my choice also but a box blade is better. As to storage just drop the box blade outside somewhere--easy on and easy off. The primary reason I got the BX over the 7500 and 2400 is that I like a nice lawn and those tractors are too likely to tear up my grass. The wheel weights and etc would cause the BX to do the same--I have bar tires by the way. The box blades gives me a useful counter balance that is easily removed. J

Disagree, from actual use. Running turfs with the rear wheel weights, when I cut the lawn, there are no marks nor traces. The weights are not that heavy (I am still at the office, so I don't have the actual weight value yet).

Now , of course when I 'play in the mud' or go-a-digging, the tires will rip up sod Under those conditions, I really don't believe that I would not destroy sod, by simply removing the weights.

The box blade is a good weight/counterweight alternative, but there are instances when use of such is unfeasible. Such as, maneuvering in tight quarters (tree groove, for example) while having a massive extension on the back. Another - working on inclines. Last thing I would want going up a hill is a large counterweight hanging off my back (unless doing wheelies is the objective).

There are a variety of solutions, each is effective within it's own way, and each have their own drawbacks.

wiilc; Now that I am home, have the wheel weight information. First off, let me say that I don't believe these are Kubota weights. I think they are standard weights, supplied by some other vendor. Mine are black rather than orange. They are donut shaped, with the following dimensions:

Inside Diameter (hole): 3-1/2" (R=1.75")
Outside Diameter: 11" (R=5.5")
Thickness: 3-1/4"
Four mounting points, two are used (even though the other two line up nicely with the square carriage-bolt square-holes on the rim, so all four could be used).
Cost: $125
Weight: 140 lbs.

Now… this is where I am unsure, since the cost/weight came off the invoice. If it's 140 lbs total, or 140 lbs each (280 lbs total)?

Given the dimensions, that would give us a volume of ((5.5*5.5*pi)-(1.75*1.75*pi))*3.25, or 275.5 sq in. each (ignores the small cut-out for the valve stem). Now, what is the weight of steel per cui? Couldn't find it. Don't want to have to remove them to weigh them. Can anyone help?

Thomas, I, er, was doing research. Yeah, that's it. (Actually my company by policy, allows us personal surf-time, as long as it does not interfere with work).

I did a quick lookup on the net and came up with 489 lb/cubic ft. So, divide that by 1728 (12x12x12) gets .283 lb/cubic inch. Multiplying by your calculated volume gets you about 78 lbs. per wheel weight.

Thanks GlueGuy! Allowing for the valve stem knock-out and the 4 mounting holes, I think we can safely say 70 lbs each for 140 total.

That Roy would be why I mentioned I had the bar tires. I am pretty certain the wheel weights would cause the bar tires to begin to do damage as it is now I cannot get out on the yard unless it is fairly dry. Another consideration is that I have clay soil and all that weight going across my lawn, back and forth, would compact it even worse than it is already. I agree that wheel weights are nice, I would probably not get any and build a weight box for the 3-point instead so I could quickly dump them for mowing etc. I do not mow with the FEL or box blade etc installed--it does to much damage to my already sorry looking yard. Oh, the BX wheel weights I saw were orange, may be the dealer painted them? or if you bought some other type I think they have Kubota orange paint in cans at the dealer. You can get paint mixed to Kubota colors also at auto paint outlets. J

First sentence, subject. Second sentence, why I believe it is true. Don't see any color complaints.

Read Roy's post regarding the uses of his BX and FEL with great interest.
I have been mentally wrestling with the choice of the BX, a 7500 or a 2410 (of course with a FEL). My project list is no more than what Roy listed and he seems to be able handle all he set out to do with the BX.
One local dealer mentioned that standard attachments for the Cat 1 3 pt. hitch won't necessarily work with the smaller sized BX so that is my concern. I see postings regarding implements being made specifically for the BX. That's a plus.
Is the chance for using a 3 pt. backhoe for, say, footings or trenching out of the question with this machine?
How does the BX handle snow duties? I have two 150' plus driveways. Long Island (NY) isn't considered "snow country" by any stretch but we get our share of the white stuff.
I've purchased and read the Ultimate Compact Tractor Guide (very worthwhile reading) and I guess it has me leaning towards the slightly larger 2410. I certainly could benefit from the price of a BX vs. the 2410.
I appreciate being able to ask these questions and thank all in advance for any feedback.
