The BX24's backhoe is a nice tool, however, in many situations the light weight of the tractor limits its effectiveness. The back end lifts up when doing heavy lifting. Would holding down the BX24's FEL when doing BH work with a bigger tractor's FEL be dangerous or damaging? I suspect that there is a relief valve that would limit the ability of the BH to break something. Am I wrong?

I see where you are coming from but the engineers really do "match" all the components meaning that the tractor is the right size and weight for the BH. Usually trying to make one section better will make another section fail. Nonetheless, it's yours and if you want to - Go to town!

Buy the right tool for the job if you need a bigger machine! Those little backhoes on the BX24 are good for some small things, but like you said the tractor is light weight. Mine gets dragged all over from the hoe too. I have made some larger outrigger pads which have seemed to help some but the hoe will pull the machine into the hole if you are really tugging on a stump or root.

Bigger tractors with bigger backhoes get dragged around just as much as the BX TLBs. It is a matter of judgment to decide how much extra ballast or anchoring to do. I found it a great help to add "big feet" to my backhoe stabilizers to prevent them from sliding around.

Well, I do have an L3700, a bit bigger. But no BH for it.

While using the BH on my BX23, I've learned that the tractor is going to move somewhat when trying to do some serious "rooting"...Like with most implements, common sense is the real factor.

Yup, I've done quite a bit of stump removal with a B26 and you will drag it right in the hole if you aren't careful. I generally turn the loader bucket down so the cutting edge digs in at an angle that it drives it deeper in the ground the further you pull it back (hard to explain). Helps some, but you also have to use the correct digging/ripping technique to get the most done without dragging the tractor too much. Now if a BX gets dragged around during normal digging then I would agree it's too light and need some extra ballast/anchoring.

I found that a bucket of gravel dampened the movements of my BX22, and made me feel less like I was beating on it. Experience helps too, but it sure is hard not to keep pulling on something when you can.

Just be careful as in that position the bucket dump cylinder is fully extended which leaves it vulnerable. I don't recall reports of damage using it as an anchor like this but it a common problem when back dragging in that position.

Rather than use another tractor to hold down the front end of the BX, try filling the BX's FEL with large rocks. There's no sense in damaging two tractors to get one job done.

The BX will do any job out there that you wnt to tackle, it just comes down to hw much time you have to complete the task. I have dug some very hard ground with basketball-size rock with mine, as well as 300+ ft of water line trench. It takes time, but it's better than paying to rent a bigger machine or hiring it done. IMO.
