If shaft was metric I would either turn the shaft to standard size or bore coupling to correct size.

What's the price of the Bro-Tek rear skid plate, and does it fit with MMM deck? Wish the web site had prices...

The shaft coupler is a good idea, but I would just about guarantee that it would void your powertrain warranty.
I had a person call and question me about this very repair this morning. I looked the job up in the Kubota FRS and it says 4.5 hours for a BX2350 and 4.9 for a BX24.
Real life would put that at 5-5.5 hours and at my rate of $65/hr that would be $325 or so.

I am with Art on this, I see broken fans on ZD mowers commonly, but can't say as I've ever had one on a BX before.

Yesterday I put a stick in my fan on my new BX25 - I know about the problem and was being careful as I could, but it happened. Pretty depressing but now I must get it sorted out.

The machine is due for it's first 50 hour service but I think I may have to do all this myself if changing the fan takes 5 hours. I don't have a trailer so there would be transport costs too. Will the dealer say that doing the job myself makes the warranty void? Any new advice on changing this fan and boot?

Pete

I was having the fender kit installed last year and the dealer replaced my broken fan for a 45 minute labor charge. I don't know how he did it, but he sure didn't pull the tranny in 45 minutes. The dealer is Frederick Equipment Company in Maryland. It appears someone in their shop has figured it out a fast replacement method. I have heard reports of people paying hundreds of dollars for this repair.

Yeah, perhaps the book time is 5 hours but there are tricks learned since. Some less honest might be tempted to charge the book time and reap the difference. I spoke to the dealer here and he was cool for me to do the job without any warranty voiding issues at all - he had a service bulletin that said to remove the ROPS, fenders, floor and move the engine forward. My brother kindly offered his help so we will do it when the parts arrive and let you all know how it goes. Perhaps we'll move the engine and see if we can do it from under neath.

We're a both yacht captains/charter skippers and used to fixing everything and anything so we'll manage. I just hit a real low mood about it cos I'm up to my eyes in things to to right now before the rains come to Vancouver Island for the fall.

Thanks,
Pete

Last week while clearing some land a small stick pop up and it broke all the fan blades off that little white plastic fan attached to the rear of the drive shaft. Local Kubota dealer quoted me $800.00 for the labor and only $5.00 to $10.00 in parts for the PLASTIC!!! fan. Kubota dealer also said the fan is crucial to cooling of the transmission and should not be ran without. My questions are can I fix this myself ? Anybody else have this problem yet and how did you fix it ? Will my BX-24 be fine without this fan or does the $15,000.00 tractor re-lie on this $5.00 dollar fan, witch any stick can take out because there is no protection around that fan.
It must have the fan.

Why can't an oil cooler be plumbed into the hydraulic circuit and have a electric fan to move air over it
The design of this is a very weak point of this equipment and I am sure that someone with hydro designs can chime in here
How about you Wayne

What's the price of the Bro-Tek rear skid plate, and does it fit with MMM deck? Wish the web site had prices...

$180 shipped to me in Texas recently. Went on quickly and has a slot for the MMM shaft. I have not yet put the mower back on to see how accessible the shaft boot is with the slot so we will see.
So yes, it is designed to work with the MMM installed. The front skid plate however is not.
Sounds like it was pretty cheap insurance. Sorry to hear people having problems on new machines because of the darn fan design.

Considering the weakness of the BX fan design and its vulnerability, the skid plate was the very first thing I purchased for the tractor.

All this talk about the labor involved for the plastic fan makes me wonder if i oughta make my own skidplate for my BX24. I just wish i had some sort of template of the brotek design and see if i can improve on it . I guess i am trying to save money making my own skid plate. :( Anyone have a better idea ?
