Awhile back I posted on another thread about their BX quitting when the HST pedal was depressed. I had the same problem traced to the HST interlock switch coming loose and not making contact. This follows up on my proposed solution.
I found that the switch mounting was accomplished using Phillips head screws. Adjusted the location and tightened the screws as much as possible with their limitations of slipping. I intended to replace with 10-32 Allen head screws as soon as I procured them. This week I completed the project. BTW that switch is behind the right rear tire.
Pulled the switch out and started to install the new screws, no threads to screw into, looked around for nuts which I would never be able to get back in place as my fingers won't fit in the space. Found a flat piece of steel like a Tinnerman clip with two holes for 10-32 screws. How they got that in there is beyond me. Another shop job where it costs $400+ in labor to partially tear down the tractor to install a $.10 clip (similar to the HST fan situation). Necessity being the mother of invention I went to work.
Piece of flat bar 4" long with the two screw positions drilled and tapped. Found I needed three hands (with space for only one) to get that in position and hold it. Drilled a hole in the other end for a 15 " long piece of 1/4 all thread. Locked that on. Could now get into the proper position but not hold tight. Hooked a bungee cord on the rod and on the pedal. Hunky dory, every thing stayed in place till the screws were in. With the new hardened screws, lock washers, and an Allen adapter for a 3/8 ratchet wrench w/ long extension my confidence in no repeat loosening is pretty high. Pictures posted also,
