Like my BX 42 chipper. Now that it is cool enough outdoors to cut trees and clean up areas I wanted to improve my chip handling abilities. If you need to save your chips for landscaping projects and don't want to have piles of chips all over the place or move your chipping material to just one location this might work for you. I finally found a use for an old pallet that I had lying around. I nailed 4 uprights to the corner of the pallet and stapled some heavier duty landscape fabric around the uprights to form a bin. Using Bxpanded forks you can place the pallet near the area where you are chipping and then move the pallet elsewhere. Works great for me.

That is exactly what I have considered doing also. Just picked up a BX42 myself about a week ago. Sharp blades, proper adjustment and it will chip up the limbs. Using a BX24 to power it.

Only had the chipper about a month. Up to 3" absolutely no problem. Approaching 4" its starting to lug.

Nice idea. What did you pay for your chipper and did you have any trouble using the pto with no one in the seat? I have herd that safety switch can be a pain!

Thanks for the pictures. In this case the old adage, a picture is worth a thousand words is true.

I have the same chipper and love it. Your idea really rings a bell with me.

Seat in the backhoe position or just unlatched from the front allows the PTO to be engaged without anyone in the seat.
Before I figured that out it was a bungy cord pulling back on the seat.

Regarding the safety switch. Yes, it can be a pain. Never needed to use it but when I did I found that putting the seat in the up position didn't work. After checking PTO position lever and the safety switch I found it was not making sufficient contact. I added a little rubber bumper to the safety switch and now the lever (when pushed into the rear PTO position) depresses the switch enough to make it run the way it is supposed to. Easy fix for me and easier than trying to readjust the safety switch.

I see you have the 4 digit BX by looking at your ROPS that doesnt fold. I am not sure how yours is setup but on mine, on the BX24 just simply lifting the seat in position getting ready to turn it around for BH will lift seat off TWO saftey switches. Once I move pto selector to rear only then I could start the pto without messing with the saftey swtiches. If the pto selector is on both rear and mid, this won't work. Keep that in mind.

If for any reason juwst in case I need to stop the pto, I can just push on the seat to slam it down onto the saftey switches and it shuts off. faster then reaching for the keys.

Howe many saftey swtiches do you guys with 4 digit BX's have under the seat ? I have the white and gray. perhaps we can figure this out for better saftey.

dennisgw- I know you figured a way to solve the seat/pto issue but I am hoping for a better way since I fear for your saftey. I'm a risk taker too, but with something like that, its nice to have a way out just in case. ;)

radioman. There is not much safety risk for my fix. There was just never enough mechanical interference to cause the "rear PTO position" safety switch to work properly. I just added a rubber button to the top of the rear PTO safety switch (the one that is engaged by the PTO lever). Added about 2 mm of extra distance towards the lever, so that when the PTO lever is set forward to the rear PTO position only, it depresses the safety switch as designed. I assume my machine had an improperly set safety switch. Button stays with the switch, and as soon as you move the seat everything stops as per normal safety. Yes, it is a 6 year old 2200, only 418 hrs.
