BX torn boots, another solution.

I have an L3830. The boots are available for about $10 apiece for my model, and I suspect they may be the same on yours. For all the ones that get torn up... surely they are on the parts list. They are not hard to replace. After doing it a couple times, I got it down to less than an hour to replace a boot. Good idea about the radiator hose.

You can't get the boots separately for the BX.

My boots have been gone for years. Idly worrying about it has been effective so far. A thousand hrs later the joints are still tight.
