BX Transmission Filter Change

Question for ehenry...how many hours did you have on that screen? I changed mine at a little over 400 hrs. Yours looked a lot like mine...quite a few charp metal pieces on it.

Warment, Sorry to say but I have no clue how many hours were on that change. I inherited that tractor from an old friend that passed away and knowing him, I really don't think it had ever been changed since it was new. The tractor had 1200+ hours on it when I took possession of it. I"ve done quite a bit of maintenance and repairs to it.

As for driving up on ramps, using shop vacs and such to save your oil I guess its to own their each. The BX22 only holds 3.5 to 4 gallons of oil I drained it all and replaced it. If it was a big tractor that holds 10 to 20+ gallons of oil I could understand the methods people have used.

Thanks ehenry. I was just curious since I recently changed the hydro fluid/filter in my BX2200 and mine had little pieces of metal on the screen like yours did. My tractor had slightly over 400 hrs and I think the hydro fluid/filter had been changed at least once since the filter had a 2007 date written on it with a grease pencil. I recently changed both the supply and return fuel lines and filters as well. Have you changed the fuel lines yet?

The thing that makes me think the hydraulic fluid and filter hadn't been changed is the filter was the same color as the frame of the tractor and no numbers were on it. I have not had to change any of the fuel lines. I have had to drain the tank completely and put new fuel filters on. The things that are getting changed on a regular basis are the hydraulic lines on the back hoe and FEL. They are showing their age and springing leaks. I think I have 6 more lines to replace on the back hoe and they will all have been replaced. Four more lines on the FEL. I've also had to replace the hydrostat fan, replaced the CV joints and boots as well as the fan belt while I had the propeller shaft out. Since I don't have a MMM I've installed a BXpanded skid plate so hopefully I wont have to do the fan job again.

I also inherited a B7300 as well. Its next on the list for love and care......the main thing on it is fuel is leaking at the injector pump. Its coming from under the flanges where the fuel supply lines connect. From what I've seen on the web and youtube there are some O-rings that need to be replaced but I'm having a problem finding someone that carries the O-rings.

I see the thread is still going so another question . . . .

I drained the fluid figuring I'll just spend the money for a little peace of mind. Also pulled the strainer - very little to no metal flakes (55 hours on the tractor). But - how to get the #%$$^$^ filter off. Hard to get to as it is with the mower deck on and evidently the factory puts the initial filters on tight as a drum. The oil filter I loosened up with a pipe wrench (yes, a pipe wrench) but the transmission filter is tight to the case on one side - no room for anything but a band type wrench. Now these filters are smaller than my car wrench fits so shimmed that with a thick strip of rubber. No luck - the thing is on so tight the band wrench with rubber strip slips before getting sufficient grip. So I bought a wrap up band wrench from the dealer and will try that this weekend. Meanwhile I've been without the tractor for a week and the grass is growing. Any suggestions? Most likely will have to jack the rear of the tractor up for better access (on stands of course).

Sam, I know you don't want to and are trying to keep from it but is removing the deck an option?

Deck removal is a snap. Not sure about reinstallation since I havent done that yet. I too would say to bite the bullet and remove the deck.

It's easy to put the deck back on. You tube has videos that show how.

The wrap up wrenches kinda stink in my experience.

I remember my filter was REALLY TIGHT. Can't remember if I used my big azz channel locks or the right size band wrench.

Put the pto in rear only when you hook up the belly mower shaft. It leaves the mid pto in neutral that way, so the shaft will move enough to line up the splines.
