Since your our king of modifying bxs here,I have a question.How could you go about jacking up a bx so you could put larger tires on it,for more ground clearance?Mabey rims from a b series or something.Could it be done?

Wow, this man (milkman) was actually at my house and I never knew he was famous for the 8 wheeled Botanator. Thought maybe some of you other BXers may enjoy this as much as I did. Thanks, Milkman and thanks to your brother, the true star of the show.

I've often thought it would be fun to mount a second set of tires on the rear. Never thought of doing it on the front though. What a cool idea!!

I can't answer for milkman but I did the same mod on my BX2660 (just the rears) and the tractor has no issues with them on. I have way more traction and any stability issues I had are a thing of the past.

Yes, in a nutshell I want to see if after years of use has any issues
arose that can be atributed to the modification. So you did it in the rear
only ? Would you say you do not baby them? I mean can you forget they

I have had them on for about a year and have had no problems at all. Yes just the rear, the front even though it looks cool I thought was overkill, lol.

I definitely don't baby my tractor, it does the work that's designed for a 50HP tractor and the duals help out a lot. People always say you run out of traction before you run out of power but with the traction of the duals I've been running out of power and still have lots of traction.

Once you get used to them you can forget that they are there cause they do make a larger footprint, but other than that put them on and go like you normally would.

Thanx for the reply. I hope Milkman chimes in. I may have answered my
own question though. On U-Tube I see his "Duals" video was from 2006, then
in 2009 there are several videos in the same garden plot plowing and tilling
w/o the duals on, Milkman, why did you take off the duals? Did you put them
back on? Were they off for years? No good, problems sir?

WAIT! I think I see a flaw in Milkmans design...

Will not the outer wheel have a tendenancy to spin upon the free "Ring" thus
bending the all thread rods? I think so....

I see how to do this now. The "Ring" between the rims needs to be attached to
the 4 bolt holes where they touch the oustside of the inner rim.
I need to draw in CAD but the final product will look like a
funnel of sorts...I need to draw and think this through.

I think this is doable and in a much more robust manner.

You were VERY creative and thinking outside the box.

Yep, if the inner tires are at a higher pressure than the outer tires
it will really help w/ the levverage issue and bearings. Just be
cool w/ it and limit running full weight on just the outer wheel sets
and I see no big issue.

As the outer wheel slips a little bit, the rods will become slightly diagonal, thus "tightening" them, preventing more slip. This would not be good in a repeated forward-reverse situation but may work OK for field work. I would rather see a steel tube with a flange on each end to connect the wheels.

In the good old days on the sand dunes, dual wheels were made by removing the entire center section of the outer wheel. Then several matching angle iron tabs were welded on each wheel in the bead area to fasten them together. One benefit is that the bolt pattern of the outer wheel didn't matter since it was removed.

Nope, I thought the same thing as well but once assembled and torqued up the outer tire never moved at all and there was no twisting of the threaded rods. I positioned the valve stems opposite each other and they never moved from that position.

The inner tire I had at 17 psi and the outer at 13 psi.

The only difference is the way I attached the wheels together I used carriage bolts then the long nuts then threaded rod then lock nut and I used thread locker on the threaded rod going into the long nut and it worked flawlessly.

I would like to see what you came up with though.

I run dualies. Fantastic. But i don't think I have the weight / torgue issues a normal tractor would have

Wow, revived an old thread. I still have the duals and had them on about a month ago. I haven't had any problems at all with them, I put them on and then check tightness after running for a bit. Never ad them to twist or move once tight. I use them mostly for stability, not much difference if I have the fronts on or not as far as being stable. When I mow or till or use the single bottom plow, I have to take them off. It was a fun project and would like to see pics of the other ones posting with duals. I have put an aluminum diamond plate sun shade and vertical exhaust on it too. I tried two different round mufflers and they were both too loud, finally found an oval one that fit and it is a lot more pleasant sound now. I'll try to get some pics of the updates and start another thread.

Glad you joined the floatation group, we need more explanation and pictures. How do you attach them on your tractor, maybe I'm due a royalty check or something. :laughing:

This is a VERY cool mod IMO. I would suggest a manufacturer would
do well if they made this or an alternate available.
