BX1500 or BX2230

I'd also add that the BT600 backhoe for the BX22/23 has got to be a heck of alot easier to install\remove than the Woods model. Doesn't the Woods model also have a subframe? If so, my guess is that would have to removed too, to put on the MMM. Finally, a backhoe puts alot of stress on the tractor. The BX22/23 has over 200 lbs. of additional frame support to absorb those stresses. My vote? Get the BX23 now versus the aftermarket hoe later.

( I need some BX advice guys and gals. I'm making the jump for a Kubota finally, and I'm stuck between the 15 and 2230. I only plan to mow about 2 acres but I want to be able to landscape, plow, grade, and etc around the property. I hope to get 20 yrs out of this puppy, so I was thinking of buyinga big bigger than needed, aka the BX2230, since it will last longer than I'm in the current home. I also plan to buy some land around a lake in the next ten years and what it for their also.

I think the bigger engine and being a three cylinder is the biggest plus personally.

When I bought mine :
The BX 2230 was 8100
FEL-----------------2300
60' MMM-----------1300
BH-----------------0000 Not available.
Total---------------11700

MyBX23-----8100
FEL----------2300
60"MMM---- 1300-Sub total 11700
BH-----------3800
Total-------- 15500

If at all possible for only 3800 difference I would spring for the BX23 over the bx2230.

Read the last two paragraphs of my post on this link and thats what I think of the size difference.

I actually had the disposable income for any one of the tractors and attachments but after comparing it all I decided for what my needs were the 1500 was the best. I know that flys in the logic of everyone here and I agree bigger is nice but not always better. Its just a alternate view point to consider. I have yet to find a situation where I felt I need more power. But read the link it will explain.

Wow, I didn't see this thread, and replied to your other thread with almost the same advice as the others here gave. The $3500 and good interet rates now, vs $5000 and not-so-good interest rates later.

To answer your question though, I suspect that over the long haul, you will be happier with more power and more capacity. The additional capacity and extra power goes a real long way when it comes to running implements.

Apollo,

Few would argue with that statement I would expect. Many might take exception to your saying that it is against the logic of most people here though.

But from my perspective, and I did want small rather than big when I bought my BX2200, there is not a lot of difference in size between the BX1530 and the BX2230 or BX23. Yes there is a difference, but unless one is dealing with very tight clearances, the difference in size may not be an issue.

Most important is getting the right tractor for one's own needs, biggest bang for the buck, doing it right the first time, and all that.

After considering all the well-intended advice one can get here at TBN, of course! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Guess that either came out wrong or was taken wrong..........What i meant is most people on the forum seem to steer people toward the 2200 series of bx. Hence the logic of the forum being the 2200 is more satisfactory. No disrespect meant by it just what i have observed so i wanted to give a different perspective from a 1500 owner that was quite happy with what he got.

Once again any thing else interepreted from the post I am sorry for as I didnt mean anything else by it!!!!!!!!

Now henro go back to greasing all those tractors you own........LOL.

None taken Apollo. Opinions like yours was exactly what the poster needed. Advice from someone who owned a bx1500. My post said go with the 2230, but I have never been on a 1500. Every person has different needs for a tractor and it sounds like you got the right one for you. Happy tractoring!!

( That's what I was thinking but the life span of these is so long I didn't want to underbuy and the price difference is not tremendous to scare me away from the BX2230. Besides, I think I can add an 3 pt hitch mounted back hoe from the aftermarket.

1*Been three done that decided against it when I found out that was the wrong way to go
Bx23 8100 FEL 2300 60'' MMM 1300 Subtotal 11700. Kubota BH 3800 total 15500.
Bx2230 8100 FEL 2300 60'' MMM 1300 subtotal 11700. After market BH 4500 16200.

Woods does make a 3pt BH attachment that'll fit the BX2230 and it has a separate PTO driven enclosed hydro system also. So it doesn't utilize the tractors hydro pumps or fluid which ain't a bad thang.
Thing is, it'll set you back nearly $6k (2004 pricing) whilest going w/the integrated BX23 now would be cheaper.

Good luck

( if you are planning to get more property in the future as you said.......i would go bigger.
if you can afford the extra cash now go for the bx23.
you will be amazed at how much you can do with that little backhoe. you will wonder how you got along without it.
i have never regretted my purchase.
it will save you time and money over the years especially if you are going to buy another piece of property.
good luck

.. . . .. ...
1*I was in a similar quandry except'n I was deciding between the BX2230 & B7510.
2*I'd always take a last glance at the BX23 and say, "nahhh, I don't need no BH and besides, I can get an aftermarket one
scott_in_ny

1*I would never go with a B7510 over the BX 2230 or bx23.
The b7510 has less hp than the BX 2230 and Bx23.
The B7510 weighs 33 more pounds more than the bx2230 and about 200 pounds less than the BX23.
Why pay more money for a tractor with less power and no weight advantage?
2*The BH may work on the BX2230 But the 2230 is not designed for a BH.
Why pay more money for a tractor not designed for a BH When you can get a BX23 for less?
